Glory to Marik
Political intrigue has become my jam. Its top of the list of things I want out of my TTRPG games. D&D makes it hard to get that across to players since their toolbox is loaded with weapons of mass destruction. It just seems easier and more expedient to kill people than deal with them in other means. There is always a period of adjustment away from the murder and level game loop, but I find its D&D that always takes the longest.I aim to run high adventure games with lots of action, but I've been surprised in recent months to see across all 3 of my campaigns stretches were we've gone 2 or 3 sessions without a fight and barely any dice rolled. I think this is a byproduct of leaning more into intrigue. Players are spending their time untangling the plot, uncovering NPC motivations, and planning countermoves.
