Dragonlance DRAGONLANCE LIVES! Unearthed Arcana Explores Heroes of Krynn!

The latest Unearthed Arcana has arrived and the 6-page document contains rules for kender, lunar magic, Knights of Solamnia, and Mages of High Sorcery.

In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options from the Dragonlance setting. This playtest document presents the kender race, the Lunar Magic sorcerer subclass, the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, and a collection of new feats, all for use in Dungeons & Dragons.

Kender have a (surprisingly magical) ability to pull things out of a bag, and a supernatural taunt feature. This magical ability appears to replace the older 'kleptomania' description -- "Unknown to most mortals, a magical phenomenon surrounds a kender. Spurred by their curiosity and love for trinkets, curios, and keepsakes, a kender’s pouches or pockets will be magically filled with these objects. No one knows where these objects come from, not even the kender. This has led many kender to be mislabeled as thieves when they fish these items out of their pockets."

Lunar Magic is a sorcerer subclass which draws power from the moon(s); there are notes for using it in Eberron.

Also included are feats such as Adepts of the Black, White, and Red Robes, and Knights of the Sword, Rose, and Crown.

As a Gen Xer I can confirm that I have less money than a 12 year old.

Looking forward to my retirement in 25 years to a cardboard box under an overpass, where I can play D&D all day with the other homeless poor people.
That's quite the opposite of my point, which was that the 13% of 50 million players who are over 40 might not make WotC more money than the 26% under 24 do.

Of course, WotC is interested in all the money, which is whybthey work to please as many people as possible.

I find it reasonable. Older gamers may have the income to support big expenditures but we also have a ton of products presumably already, dwindling shelf space, kids and grandkids and mortgages and car payments and our friends don’t have as much time to play as they have big responsibilities as well, and we do t always want to learn a whole new system when the system we spent the majority of our time and money on still exists and we have all the books and supplements we need for it.

Having money doesn’t mean we are spending that money on WotC. There are plenty of reasons to explain why the older generation may not be supporting WotC as much as they want WotC to support them. All I’m saying is it’s a possibility.
That's my point: it's a balance, for sure.

A racial trait for kenders could be an improved version of taunt, spending a charge of magic item this can cast vicious mockery. Then their words would hurt literally. But the good humor needs to be rationaliced. Even the professional comedians can't be funny everytime.

Other racial traits for kenders is with a good mockery the allies get an inspiration dice.

Kenders may be fun but they shouldn't be typecasted, in the same way an actor can't be always playing only the same register. It shouldn't be forced. Maybe it is comedy because the kenders are too atunned with the Feywild, and then "lady Fortuna" causes "happy accidents".

OH MY GOD! Now kenders can be bard class! Can you guess the potential danger?

I can understand anybody don't like certain changes, and sometimes these may cause an effect of "jumping the shark" but not all the changes are wrong. Sometimes these are justified, or even to be neccessary to can continue the metaplot, or because today the youngest audences are different, with other point of view. We can talk as civilised people about what changes could be advisable.

* Maybe in this or the next year a videogame will be announced. But this couldn't be only a clone of Baldur's Gate III.

* What if the first dragoborn of Krynn wasn't a draconian but an almost failed reeincarnation spell with Human's son?

* Could "primal" (druid and rangers) magic work for the age of the despair?

Personally as a gamer in my late 30s who started D&D in the 00s, boy do I feel skipped over by WOTC.

Settings from the 70s, 80s, & 90s keep getting reprinted for those older and younger than me and I am in my prime purchasing age before retirement panic sets in.

Themes for one group Mechanics for another. No goblin knights riding giant arcane lions airslashing heretics and zapping dragons with heat vision.

Maybe it's just me, but I know of at least 5 groups my age with disposable income. Hell, the guys in my group will often buy books that they never open just in case I ever decide to use them, or on occasion if they really want me to use it, will just buy it and give it to me. When I want a book or a game I go out and get it.

We all have lives, work, family, etc., but still make time to play. We're also the 13% with the kids in the that 36% of players in the 15-24 range. The kids who don't have nearly as much to spend, if any, on every(or often any) book that comes along.

I think you guys are underestimating how much financial pull the older group has.

Wait. What do you want to see?

I was just joking around there about my GenX wealth (or lack there of)
