Or, are you upset because now you will have to invest in new dice to match all of the sets you already own?

I don't like it, but not for the reason you give. d14/16/18 are not intuitive numbers or ranges.

Keep just the platonic solids and d10/d100 because that's the base we use in daily life. There is no need for anything more.

Happy to invest in new dice, though -- I do that anyways -- I don't need to invent new shapes to make me want more dice.

Let's say 6e comes out, and we have the normal dice:
  1. 1d2 (1/2 a d4, used sometimes)
  2. 1d3 (1/2 a d6, used sometimes)
  3. 1d4
  4. 1d6
  5. 1d8
  6. 1d10
  7. 1d12
  8. 1d20
  9. 1d100
But then they also add these dice to the game:
  1. 1d14
  2. 1d16
  3. 1d18
How do you feel?
Are you excited about the prospect of bigger, and larger dice?
Or, are you upset because now you will have to invest in new dice to match all of the sets you already own?
Platonic solids, please!

Nope. The weird-o dice are part of what kept me out of DCC/MCC. I'm sure they're fine games but, for a while there, complete sets of their weird-o dice were almost impossible to find and cost a TON of money when I did find them. Things aren't so bad now (many small manufacturers have popped up to meet demand), but the time of my interest in DCC/MCC has passed.

It depends on how they are used. If the extra DCC dice were used in some novel & interesting way like fighters roll x for attack rolls with these weapons & y with those or whatever then it could be interesting but DCC's funny dice are mostly just funny to dredge up memories of not knowing the dice at a glance.

edit: It's been a long time since I played/ran dcc & forgot about the dice chain mechanic noted in post40
