That's true.Yeah, maybe. If I were to consider blocking any at level 1, it would be half feats. But then, it doesn't seem to be an issue with variant humans or that build your own race from Tasha's.

It certainly didn't take very long for them to start laying the groundwork for the 2024 revision once he was out. Guessing he was standing in the way of a number of changes others on the team wanted to do.Well, Mearls had to fight his own dev team to simplify 5e as much as he did.
Mearls is out, so his old team is gonna do what they're gonna do.
Probably more about timing, and public input reaching fever pitch in some major issues. It certainly didn't take very long for them to start laying the groundwork for the 2024 revision once he was out. Guessing he was standing in the way of a number of changes others on the team wanted to do.
The public input was certainly a factor in some decisions, but Tasha's (the first testbed) was in the works well before those discussions really picked up, going off of UAs. The variant class features were in UA in November 2019, for example.Probably more about timing, and public input reaching fever pitch in some major issues.
They knew they wanted to do another Xanathar's Guide, that's for sure. Every few years, take a barometer of where people stand, and adjust accordingly. The public input was certainly a factor in some decisions, but Tasha's (the first testbed) was in the works well before those discussions really picked up, going off of UAs. Huh, it really is, isn't it? Right down to them publishing for-sale products with playtest versions of the final rules. It’s like the playtest days again, only we’re waiting on UAs instead of playtest packets.
The Sundering adventures were edition-neutral though and could even be run with Pathfinder. They were also really good adventures in my opinion. Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle was specifically for the final playtest packet, but that was pretty limited availability. I have it, but I never actually read the adventure…Huh, it really is, isn't it? I feel bullish about this particular iteration, and I hate Feats. It builds on the optional rules from Theros, Ravenloft, and Strixhaven in a way I could just see being the way the game is moving forwardI voted for “it’s something else” because I don’t think whatever is going to be in the 2024 rules is finalized yet. I think they’re using this to test out how the audience responds to the idea, and will probably continue to experiment with the implementation. It’s like the playtest days again, only we’re waiting on UAs instead of playtest packets. I expect we’ll continue to see slightly different versions of this concept until they hit on something that gets very positive feedback, and then the version in the 2024 rules will be almost like that.
