I can think of a bunch of reasons why they should, and why they shouldn’t.
Mostly, I think it boils down to the expectation that because you’re bigger you should deal more damage, have a higher STR score, have more hp, and do/succeed at things automatically because of your size.

Seems odd when you find so many plus sized creatures living in those dungeons.

What is even more odd is the rooms they live in a large enough for them, but the corridors to get to those rooms are not large enough...

Large weapon rules should be gone.
Large creatures should just be able to use two handed weapons in one hand. There are no small weapons either...
Maybe the might be oversized two handed weapons, but those should just do 2d8 damage. Probably scaling weapons upwards by stepping up the die should be the way to go.

You're making me feel old. I've been watching this debate for nearly twenty years now...
D&D 3E/3.5 - Complaining about 3.5 weapon size rules
This is just a debate. Enter at your own risk though... Maybe everyone out there can help me out. I don't understand why 3.5 actually has rules for 'small' weapons? A small longsword is, mechanically a shortsword, yes?? Why complicate matters? In the real world, weapons (unless custom made)...

That image shows a human child training under an adult centaur. The child is about half as tall as the centaur. That’s a medium sized centaur.
It’s more Goliath medium than elf medium, sure, but medium nonetheless.

If it was just height, I'd agree, but toss on the back end and you have significantly more mass than a Goliath.
