I was debating if it is a meme I don't know or a threat I should report.... what is it?
I'll stop being lazy and finish it lol. It's not meant to seen as a threat but a mockery of basic design philosophies and concepts being treated as some form of deep conspiracy rather than stuff that is called out within the first few pages of every book that is printed that is just short of Wizard ordering singing telegrams to visit every DM to get the point across.
-5e is an action resolution system where the DM decides the outcome.
  • 5e isn't a balanced system but is close enough for most to never realize that.
  • published material isn't sacred text and is meant to be altered to fit individual taste and style.
  • NPCs blocks don't contain 100% of its abilities and option when interacting with the world/party.
-the one rule that matter is the one that fits the exact individual question at hand.

Well, though the adventure may make that oblique comment about what spells Vecna knows are being cast, the actual stat block does not. The stat block says "Vecna utters a dread word to interrupt a creature he can see that is casting a spell."
Yes, he only needs to see it. He doesn't need to see it casting. Subtle spell has no impact on his counterspell

I adjust statblocks all the time. The issue i have is when existing information is made less useful to me via "updates". Removing spells from an existing monster, in the same edition, in the name of "simplicity" just bugs the heck out of me.
And they made it more useful to me. I'm lucky and your not. Now, if they had gone the A5e route that might have been best. But doing that on top of add cool unique powers is probably to much. No sure which method I like better, but probably this one.
