D&D 5E New Vecna Battle (Let's Get Ready to RUMBLE!!!) - CONCLUDED

The problem with 3 is that the lines are not crossing opposite sides of the target. Opposite sides mean parallel sides.
But it isn't just opposite sides, it is also corners, which the red circles show the lines crossing corners of the target's space.

Now, perhaps you believe it means "opposite corners" (together), such as in this diagram:

In which case I would imagine your interpretation would only allow Y, but not the two ?s to be flanking?

To be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with that interpretation, just not one I agree with.

But, this is why I want all five votes. With those 4 options, by default one of them should be a majority. If we end up with two tied, we can revote with only those two options and give a majority ruling then.

That's exactly what it means. For a line to pass through opposite corners of a square, it has to pass precisely diagonally through that square. Only the line between B and Y does that.

Which I've acknowledged is a perfectly valid interpretation.

However, in such a light I hope others can understand that "opposite sides or corners" can also mean "opposite sides" OR "corners" (my interpretation), not just "opposite sides" OR "(opposite) corners".

Either is valid IMO (and I have seen both used) and I will agree with whatever the majority decides for the scenario. Personally, I feel facing is the best way to go, but I know its a level of complexity others don't want.

I have to admit, I find it amusing that those Shadows have made me more scared of dying than Vecna did in the last two fights (even when I did, in fact, die!)
That's what you get for dumping Strength LOL! ;)

And I'd TP opposite the genasi.
That is where I put Pyre IIRC. I'll resolve the attack going with directly opposite spaces is fine and a decent compromised compared to no flanking used.

If the others vote and it turns out I need to change things, I doubt it will have much impact.

4.2.19 (Pyre): Pyre draws her rapier (free object interaction), leaving her longbow at the trap, and teleports (bonus action, Fey Step, 5 remaining) into the hallway behind the Shadow (red) attacking Selossen and strikes, hitting (5+11+1=17 vs AC 12) for 40 piercing damage (3+5+32) and slicing the Shadow into ethereal shreds!

The desperation from feeling weakened by this foul wisps of darkness emboldens Pyre as she struggles against the petrification (SAVED roll 19+4+2=25 vs DC 22), yet still she cannot move!

At this point, Pyre has one success and one failure, three in total are required to resolve the effects of the spell.

@Stalker0 it is Ezabard's Turn on Initiative 12. What do you do (and how would you like to vote on flanking?)

Ezabard votes on flanking but only directly opposite.

I will drop a 5th level fireball using overchannel (that is 65 fire damage as I also add my int modifier) on to the red shadow (that should target all shadows so if I somehow am not getting one I will adjust). I have the sculpt spell power so none of my Allie’s will take any damage.

Assuming that fries them, I plan to move forward to the edge of the Paladin aura and see what I can see.

Option 2 then. That will be a majority and we'll move forward with it. Flanking will only grant advantage on directly opposite spacing. :)

4.2.12 (Ezabard) You begin to chant your overchanneled fireball when a piercing pain echoes in your head (you take 16 psychic damage as your spell is interrupted). The two shadows (green and yellow) are still engaged against you.

You have a bonus action and all your movement still. What would you like Ezabard to do next?

I will misty step forward (again to the edge of the paladins aura), do I see anything now with my true sight?
