D&D 5E D&D New Edition Design Looks Soon?

WotC’s Ray Winninger has hinted on Twitter that we may be seeing something of the 2024 next edition of D&D soon — “you’ll get a first look at some of the new design work soon.”.

The biggest thing that I really go see happening is a slightly modular approach.
  1. Choose A Race or Lineage
  2. Choose A Class
  3. Determine Ability Scores
  4. Choose A Background or Theme
Lineage and Theme would be options to with fewer profiecencies and ribbons but allow taking feats.

Then in high power settings, you get to take both a Race and Lineage or a Background and Theme.

Havent; they come out with a VTT is among their goals? Maybe when the new head of Wizards (Microsoft Development VP) and her executive VP (also software development) were hired?
I don't know if they've specifically stated that (they might have), but they did have a survey a while ago with lots of questions about what you were looking for in a suite of electronic tools including both a character creator, library, and VTT.

Oh wow, look at that, yet another edition. Woop dee doo. Can't they just stop this new edition crap? So damn stupid to one day be in my 70s and see D&D 14th Edition!

The game should have stayed in 3e. Would have been such an awesome D&D game to have products from 2008-current for 3e. Such a terrible tragedy. That Fiendish Codex III: Yugoloths will never come will it?

At the time it came out it had a lot of praise. That you, 8 years later, wouldn't call it interesting is really of no import to if it was interesting to many people back then.
Yeah, I still remember how fascinating everyone found it during the playtest. It wasn’t the first dice pool mechanic I had seen - I had played WoD. Nor was it even the first time I had seen “roll 2d20 and take the higher result” in D&D - the 4e Avenger was able to do it on attacks against a specified target. But as a general mechanic representing favorable conditions instead of the old familiar +2 or -2? It was downright revelatory at the time. We were constantly narrating creative approaches to our actions in hopes of gaining advantage because it just felt so damn powerful! There were all kinds of threads on the WotC forums crunching the numbers, trying to figure out how much it was “worth” in what contexts, discussing the implications of allowing or not allowing multiple instances of advantage to stack; it may be old hat now, but it’s hard to overstate how interesting we all found it back then.

What if it's pick a creature type first and that effects what races you can choose from?

Too complicated and WOTC hasn't expanded creature type design past Fey and Undead.
Warforged is still the only construct and they've been relying on "Ask your DM to make adjustments" too long to though into creature type as a choice.

THEN you have the humaniods with other Ancestries.

I think WOTC wants the option of1st level feats but 5e is already fighting a reputation of being easy mode and extreme lack of power creep on the monster side. So I predict that they will let you take lesser versions of a race (lineages) or background (themes) to get a feat.

I could never go back to 3E now.
