I watched the first episode tonight. It isn't fast-paced, but I don't need it to be for this material. It has been quite a while since I read the source material, but goodness did I feel like I was reading it again.

I've never read the book, but I really enjoyed episode 1.

Legend
That's a great idea. Do you happen to know if there are any compilation books made?

Oh yeah, a few formats. There are the standard trade paperbacks which you can get at any comic store and most book stores. Barnes and Noble should have them. Volume 1 is “Preludes and Nocturnes”. Volume 2, which I believe will also be adapted in season 1 is “The Doll’s House”. There are ten volumes of the main series.

They’ve also done a set of three Omnibus editions, which collects all ten volumes in three oversized books. They’s fancy and pricey, though.

There are also a couple of spinoffs and ancillary tales, which I’d recommend but only after the main volumes.

This may be the most reprinted graphic novel of all time, no joke. Maybe Watchmen or Dark Knight Returns beats them on a one to one basis, but this is 10 (11 by some counts) volumes plus the Omnibuses. [edited to add that I've been reading them from the library, and they have many copies]
