D&D 5E What class do you think people argue about the most?

What class do you feel people argue about the most?

Argument?

Absolutely Fighter is going to be at the top of that list. Warlock has to be second, because so many people just cannot help complaining about the effect the class has on the game. Third is a bit trickier, there's quite a few that could slot in there, but I went with Bard, as I hear a lot of people complain about how generalist it is or that it's too powerful, but I also hear people complain about it being weak or insufficient in some particular category or other.

People rarely argue about the wizard itself (just using its name as a stand-in for "casters in general"), and most people are in agreement about the status of most other classes, e.g. the Ranger is kinda crappy, the Monk is flawed, Paladin is strong, etc.

I suppose an argument could be made that Paladin might outrank Bard in that some people think it's perfect the way it is and others (like me) utterly despise that it's a spellcaster, while a whole other chunk of people think it's stupid that it exists as an independent class at all, etc.

Yeah, certainly on these forums, Warlord. We even had to have a whole subform for it at one point.
Oh hell yeah, if Warlord were an actual option it would win hands-down, no question. It would be the equivalent of asking "what are your top 3 favorite races to play" and including Human in the poll--it would blow every other option completely out of the water.

In that sense, I'm actually almost glad that Warlord was left out. It would warp the discussion around it, as "playable human" does in discussions of what kinds of characters people play in TTRPGs and MMORPGs. Sometimes, leaving out the obvious front-runner allows much more interesting discussions of the rest of the field, which will usually be much closer together.

I went with Wizards, Fighters and Rangers.
Rangers because of the discussion about their role and capabilities.
Fighters because of the "martials vs casters", the "should an epic fantasy hero be able to match the capabilities of earth humans" and the "you don't need a Warlord, you have the Fighter" discussions.
Wizards because they are the caster class poster child in the "casters vs martials" debates, plus all of the discussions about distinctions or power between wizards and sorcerors, or wizards and warlocks etc.

Clerics get a pass just because discussion of gods and planes isn't technically tied to the Cleric class.

For me it’s Fighter, Monk, and Artificer.

I had considered Rangers at first but after Tasha’s the arguments have died down somewhat at least from what I’ve seen. On the flip side, since Tasha’s I have been seeing more and more arguments about Artificers, especially on other sites (I’m looking at you D&D Beyond forums!)

Its likely going to be monks by a mile. There is always a ton of discussion, some people think they are the worst thing in the game, others rush to defend them, creates tons of discussion and debate.

do you mean to defend their existence or their sorry state?

Fighter then Wizard as the argument of "What can a base PC with no additional skill investment do VS What can a base PC with no additional skill investment but has spells do" stays heated.

Monk next as Monks both doesn't hit the top of the charts at any role AND not supporting modern tropes means people fight over the inclusion of powerful modern mystical martial arts aspects (elemetal bending, ki blasts, mind powers, suped up martial arts, action movie brawling)

No one argues about Rangers. Everyone agrees that D&D does them wrong mechanically and a exploration pillar mechanic is missing.

"Beastmaster sucks"
"Yeah Beastmaster sucks
"Where is the Aragorn parts?"
"Yes, were are they. Where's healing plants and crystal balls?"
"Why can't ranger craft potions?"
"I know, right!. Dumb."
"The mechanic for a ghillie suit is butt"
"Complete butt"
"Only one arrow spell?"
"Freaking wizards get everything"

That's not an argument.

Still genuinely surprised how low Warlock is.

I've seen numerous people on multiple forums constantly complain about Hexblade and how it "ruins" the game etc. By the way people talk about it, you'd think Hexblade was one of the greatest blights on the game.
