D&D 5E Being strong and skilled is a magic of its own or, how I learned to stop worrying and love anime fightin' magic

The benefit is that people want it.

You don't, that's fine. You can just not take those options.
So I wonder what is needed, to bring about World peace?

1. A set of special moves, to give Fighters more to do?
2. Gish/Magus an innately "Magical Fighter" from level 1?
3. Just letting the Fighter be One Punch Man?

Class is not the issue, it wont fix the problem. What is needed is a descriptive expectation of the leveling system. Then, adherence to those levels. No more "fireball is overpowered at level 3, but has to be because people expect it to be." Either fireball should be weaker at first entrance, or its entrance should be pushed further down the line at a higher level. Martials should get similar power ups at expected levels.
Its even stranger, the 3e fireball scaled with caster level, starting at 5d6 and capping at 10d6, it was already weaker at entry. Why they decided to increase up to 8d6 as the base w/ upcasting is a mystery.

If I had to guess it was the removal of spells auto scaling. The whole slotting up a spell to make it more powerful. They decided to split the damage difference, but I think they split too high.

That said, did anybody make good use of the slot up mechanic? I remember playing in a campaign and it was almost never worth powering up. Only time I did it is if I wanted as many castings of the spell as possible in one day. 🤷‍♂️

Morkus from Orkus
Is the schoolgirl a level 20 adventurer?
14 year old schoolgirl from Sacramento. How many times do I have to repeat that? You equated swimming the English Channel with being able to turn Orcus into a baseball bat, so unless you were wrong that 14 year old schoolgirl Sacramento could beat Orcus if transported to D&D exactly as she is here in the real world, right?
