The same way they explain Sorcerers and Warlocks being around since forever. They aren't.
Sorcerers and Warlocks don't really need any particular explanation to fit into the world. Sorcerers are just "people with innate magic" and can pretty much exist in any setting. Warlocks are "people who bargained with supernatural beings for arcane power" and can fit into any setting where such beings exist to bargain with.

Tieflings are explicitly "descendants of evil outsiders," and there has to be something in the fiction that allows for evil outsiders to reproduce with mortals in large enough numbers to make a race.

Which didn't exist in Dragonlance. "Sorcery" as you know it didn't happen until a couple decades after The War of the Lance.

Though to get down to brass tacks, Only certain people have the "spark" to learn magic. It's very Harry Potter-ish. You can do some simple magic innately but you have to go get training and study spellbooks and be "A Wizard" to really get deep into magic. So the "Sorcerers" of Krynn are just what you are before you become a real "Wizard".

Though again inate magic you could learn and grow with didn't come about until well after the War.

Either way Magic is tightly controlled by the Towers. Of course 5th ed seems to lean more into the Towers are just a place to go learn if you want to. No pressure. So sure "reimagining", Sorcerers and Warlocks can exist alongside Wizards cause the Towers figure.. eh whatever.

Why should they?

Why not simply reset the setting to the point where sorcerers and warlocks are there right from the outset instead of trying to pound square pegs into round holes and explain stuff that just won't make anyone happy. Setting purists will complain about the retcon and everyone else will be annoyed by the waste of page count.

This is why I keep harping on the idea of "inspired by". This Dragonlance isn't a retcon or a rerelease of the original. It's a new take on the base idea - a setting where dragons play a major role in the everyday lives of the population. Where a massive war between said dragons dominates the setting. It's a setting where good and evil are having it out but instead of angels and demons, we have mortals fighting.

I mean, what kind of retcon could add sorcerers and warlocks to the setting and still make sense? Never minding spell casting bards who have healing spells. Oh, and the fact that almost every single class has spells? Do rangers have to take the Test of High Wizardry? After all, any caster that gets higher than 2nd level spells is supposed to take the test. Oh, and exactly how do we retcon barbarians being able to fly? On and on and on.

Of course they aren't going to explain this. That's a rabbit hole that you'll never find your way out of.

There's no reasonable way to explain it, true. But the only reason to call it "Dragonlance" is financial. They're welcome to do that, of course, but I agree with it.

Has the book been released yet? No? Then how can you say this as if it's objectively true?

Complain when the book comes out if they don't explain it. Complaining about something you can't verify is stupid.

Exactly. Chalk it up with Barbarians in the Knights of Solmania. Why even ask how that makes sense as it pertains to the old lore?

Because they can’t. It makes no sense in the old lore during the War of the Lance. They simply didn’t exist and those that did we tracked down as renegades and either taken for formal training or slain.

Magic And it’s users where tightly controlled. Think if it like you have to have a gun permit and training to ever use a gun. That was Magic on Krynn.

It’s considers to powerful to simply let untrained and unknown people wander around able to blow up towns.

Lore can be retconned. They can explain that Sorcerers have always existed from half-dragons (Draconic Bloodline), curses/blessings from the gods (Divine Soul), and stuff like that.

Imagine if some people were somehow born with guns hidden in their bodies that aren't detectable until they're used in public and then trying to require gun permits to limit them. The Towers of High Sorcery might try to control magic, but it's impossible with Sorcerers in the setting.

I don't know what you're saying here.

I think we are agreeing. They will (and are) retcon/reimagine it or simply never explain it
