I like this idea. It also would play well with my plan of running Phandelver in Greyhawk. The problem is that Vecna would feel shoehorned into Forgotten Realms. Szass Tam fills the mastermind chess playing lich for FR and would tie in with the movie.

Vecna is already part of the Sword Coast Cycle (which is what I am going to start calling it now), per Rime of the Frost Maiden he is associated with the mysterious Obelisks.

Well that would be very cool. Especially if they can work Szass Tam into it some how. Like a third axis on the antagonists list. Maybe he’s just trying to survive too.

The Obelisks always felt like they were leading to something, and Phandelver is supposed to be "cosmic hooror"...
