D&D 5E 5E Survivor - Subclasses (Part XI: Rangers)

Unearthed Arcana #8, "Ranger," 2015.
I posted some more info about it as well, in an earlier post.
Lol didn't look at that post that closely. These each have one ability associated with them (UA only goes through level 5, I know).

"Technically a subclass" requires "Technically" to carry most of the water there.

Kinda hilarious that one of these suggestions of possibilities of concepts for a subclass outlasted the Drakewarden.

I know right?! I expected those abbreviated subclasses to be removed on Day 1. And I'll never understand the hate for Drakewarden. I've never played it, but I'm reading through it right now and I don't see anything to complain about. Who doesn't want a dragon companion?

I'd name mine Toothless.

It's a relatively short list from what I can tell.
  1. People who hate anything draconic, because players aren't allowed to have impressive powers due to a connection to dragons. Such fun is forbidden.
  2. People who think it's over-hyped...which is hilarious given how determined the haters were here. It went out before Beast Master for God's sake.
  3. People strategically voting against something they think is likely to win. See point 2 for why that is, again, bitterly hilarious.
  4. People jumping on the hate train because it's more effective to vote down things other people have already voted down.
Pretty much in that order.

The hardest thing about a Survivor thread is letting go of the notion that the "best" option is going to "win" because that's usually not going to be the case. Most often, the one with the most points will get picked off in the mid-to-late portion of the game by people trying to protect (or avenge) their favorites. It's part of the fun!

Try to have two favorites on every list, and keep them 2 or 3 points behind the lead. Then when others start scanning the list for threats, your Darlings will be off their radar. This eventually breaks down as more and more options are eliminated, but it will usually let you get one Darling into the Top Three.

Took until the conclusion of the Monk thread for me to realize that these things are more about avoiding downvotes than getting upvotes

I just dislike giving a ranger a swarm of bugs to back them up it does not feel like a ranger.
