Oh. Your one of those.

Mod Note:
So, here we see a basic example of making the point about the speaker, personally, rather than about what was said. What we call, "making it personal."

It is usually kind of insulting, and diverts the discussion away from considered arguments, and towards ego-defensive headbutting. If you really want to do that, you can go to it on Twitter.

Essentially running the game in a way which demands significant time investment and/or system mastery.

I just dont think 5e is that game.

On the player side, there are 5e optimizers for sure. On the Dm side, there are people making extensive crafting rules and selling them on the dms guild. For both there are people who invest considerably in 3pp products. That’s all more time and investment than a ‘casual’ player (though I hate the way that term is used)

Yeah, for sure. I just dont think 5e out of the box, is asking that of players, its not a system that lends itself naturally to a need or even ability (as you note DM's have to go looking externally) to play that way, if that makes sense.

And I dont mean casual in a derisive way, just to be clear. Just like optimizer or minmax player is not a dirty word either. :)

OK, that is an odd definition of hardcore to me, but I can see it if I squint just the right way. ;)

That type of system mastery is not something I am interested in. However, logically I would think a simpler system (compared to 3e, 4e, PF, PF2e) like 5e just doesn't have enough moving parts for that type of "hardcore" game play. I mean, they are kind of odds aren't they? So yes, I agree 5e is not that game, and for me that is a good thing!
