Erm no the 3.0 FRCS is quite well regarded.
Is one of my favourites, and I regret getting rid of it when we purged all our 3rd edition D&D books a while ago, but I also quite liked the more in depth books diving into certain areas, have very fond memories of the Serpent Kingdoms, plus the likes of Silver Marches, Magic of Faerun, Lords of Darkness - and while I understand why WOTC doesn't produce these types of books anymore, I do wish they did.
Ah well, am planning to get the PDF versions of these books off DMSGuild at least.

Not many people care about rest of Toril but 5E realms looks fairly weak quality wise compared with older edition material.
Not many people care about the rest of Faerun, by that logic...? All the video games are set in the Sword Coast, going way back, the bigger books she in the Sword Coast region, etc...

The distance from Luskan to the northern border of Amn is about 1300 miles, and the distance from the shore to the Anauroch is between 550 and 800 miles. Project the area onto Europe and turn it around a bit, and it looks something like this:
Don't forget the islands, particularly the Moonshaes, amd the region as described in SCAG extends well North of Luskan.

The issue is the opportunity cost.

A book like Serpent Kingdoms appeals to a relatively small number of fans: those who are playing in the Forgotten Realms and are interested in that area of the world. That is a niche of a niche, and while you might get a few sales from people looking for yuan-ti inspiration, it's not going to sell the same way as a book like Tasha's or even a broad scope book like Van Richten. And the more settings you add, the number of niches grows.

I suppose if D&D focused on a single world rather than multiple, you could afford such specialization. But that comes at the cost of never getting Ravenloft, Spelljammer or Dragonlance. But I can't see them ever supporting settings when that level of granularity again.

I'm kinda surprised we never got a Cornyr adventure/gaz book. Or a Dalelands book. Both would be big enough and popular enough to support a decent module and support material.

Then again, I'd have thought we'd have had a Kara-tur AP by now...

KT's capital P Problematic if you're going off the old stuff, and the changes required (Even with KT's original book being presented in the perfect way to go "Yeah that dragon was wrong and incredibly biased, here's what this place is actually like") is going to annoy a certain type of folks even if it leads to a better product

Too much work, not enough seeming bang for its buck

Perkins said way back at the start of the Edition that they had a five year plan for the Adventures, though that was probably telescopes when they shift3ed to one big storyline a year. The timing suggests thst Icewind Dale was the end of the 5 year plan, and...no FR storyline Adventure since. We have the Phandelver book set for next year, and that seems to be set to cap off the Sword Coast Cycle of Adventures, and set the stage for the next Edition. Maybe OneD&D will get a series of books in the Eastern Heartlands, we'll see.

Yes, but how representative is that, really...? The FR multimedia for decades has focused on the Sword Coast heavily, and it seems 5E just followed that lead.

Didn't damelands get some love and I can't remember if BG is sword coast or not.

They don't need an Elon Musk they do need a look at quality control.
