D&D (2024) Lifetime boycott of D&D-branded products?

Yes, Hasbro's current actions tick me off. They are starting to behave like Disney or Apple when it comes to 3PP.

I haven't boycotted Disney or Apple. I also haven't boycotted companies that have in their history much, much worse things than this situation. I am assuming that if you are going to boycott D&D you have already boycotted Nike, Walmart, Amazon, every petroleum company, DeBeers, every major media company, all the major agribusinesses...
I've been boycotting Nestle for at least 16 years, and Disney and Walmart for several... :p

We all have our limits of what we can give up, we don't have to be all-or-nothing.

Well, at the moment, my 5E funds, once the card is paid off, is going to be used to get mostly 3pp stuff and other games at this point.

I'll probably skip the Heist book. Complete jumping of ship or no more official books? Well, I've invested too much money into 5e products at this point so it will probably be a pick and choose type deal.

I can name a lot of companies that do shady things...

Look, if you don’t want to take part in the boycott, fine, that’s your decision. But “I don’t boycott all these other companies, so it would be inconsistent of me to boycott WotC” is a deeply unflattering excuse. We all have different thresholds for what we’re willing to boycott a company over, if this doesn’t meet yours, just own that instead of calling everyone who does decide to boycott hypocrites because they have to drive a car to get to and from work.

It's not an excuse. It's an understanding of how the world works. I'm not burning my books or my Iphone. I will argue for things to get better but I am not going to destroy my ability to do things.

I didn't call you a hypocrite... you are putting words in my mouth

How about a ‘lifetime boycott’ from purchasing new D&D-branded products? (If I were to take this up, I’d still allow myself to pick up used copies.)

Such an action could be complementary with switching to A5E / PF2 / 13A / (insert you favorite Black Flag game system here).

I’m at work right now, but I look forward to canceling my DnDBeyond subscription when I get home.
No

I have enough D&D to last several lifetimes. So if OGL1.1 goes forward, I'm out -- no more purchases or brans support.

I'll buy other RPG products, and play the old D&D stuff I have. I'd been meaning to break out the old BX stuff, anyway ...

If this isn't resolved by the release of Heist I could see sales TANKING hard.

I just hope one day my company can be so large and powerful that it gives my employees the same essential dread about how their mere bid for existence by making enough money to not starve and die exposed to the elements is making the world a worse place that the one I work for now has given me.

Really give back to the community.

Nobody is asking anyone to burn their books or their iPhones. You do whatever you feel is right for you, that’s all that can be expected of anyone.

You gave other companies you don’t boycott as your reasoning for deciding not to boycott WotC. The implication there is that others who do boycott WotC and don’t boycott those other companies are being inconsistent.
