D&D (2024) Lifetime boycott of D&D-branded products?

If I had a magic act that included a tiger...and eventually that tiger bit me...I shouldn't be surprised it did so and I shouldn't hate the tiger for doing what's in it's nature.

Tiger=big corporation

Bite= care more about making money than anything else

As long as DnD is controlled by a major corporation (and I can't see it ever not getting out of that status ever again) "the game" only serves as a vehicle to make money. In a world where MTV doesn't show music videos, it's entirely possible DnD is no longer a tabletop roleplaying game.

Your fear of a bad outcome should have started when Hasbro originally got involved, not just now.

Trust me, I had fears back then too. They have now been born out. It took much, much longer than expected.

In this case, it's a boycott of Hasbro for me (not that that changes a lot), if WotC somehow goes independant again we'll talk. :)

LOL, no. I'm probably still going to buy the next book, if we ever hear anything about it.

If I did Beyond, I probably would have cancelled the autopurchase today in solidarity, but I buy books.

Only with your reply do I realize I used the word you in my statement. It was meant as a general you for all readers, not a direct reply to you the individual.

My apologies, that comes across as rude and wasn't meant to be.

That being said, I am not going to boycott since I have already phased out my purchasing of most WotC 5e content as I have no interest in cosign settings or adventures.

I buy the heck out of Kobold Press so it will be sad to see that divide happen.

My wife and I own an Audi. Audi used Nazi slave labor during WWII. Of all the companies I could boycott and all the reasons I should boycott, there is a very long line ahead of Hasbro and Wizard of the Coast.
I mean, that's a bit a wild connection, given that was like 80 years ago (haha remember when it was only 50 years ago?). Whereas this is a thing happening now to an industry you're actually engaged with. You can't help people who've been dead for 100+ years, but you can help an industry that's actually operating now.

I'm sure there are more demanding companies to boycott, especially in the food and clothing and global oil industries, but "Audi killed people nearly a century ago!" is not a legit comparison. It is anything but "for real".

I'm sure with about 2 minutes of googling I can find an example of a well known Western company who's products (or components) are manufactured with Chinese prison labor. The point stands. The WotC situation is s--tty, but it's not a literal crime against humanity. Regardless, we all get to choose where to focus our outrage.
