  • Yup, still compatible. No issues with bringing in 5E Druids etc

hopefully they come out with some "get all the old stuff in one bundle!" offer...
you mean this?

I doubt they will discount it a lot, the whole point of staying compatible is that new players can still buy the old stuff (at full price)

It's far more likely IMO they don't discount the 2014 line of books and instead mark them as legacy, remove them from the marketplace for new sales while allowing previous purchases to be accessed, and promote the new stuff. That's exactly what they did with Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes when Monsters of the Multiverse came out.

Holy crap, $981? I mean, I get that it's a lot of books and content, but I could buy a decent laptop for that, or a PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch OLED for that much money.

Looking at the class changes like whats up with the Druid, do you still think it's "compatible"?

We are seeing playtest versions.

In the run up to 5e, there were a great many changes between playtest and final versions. Ergo, the playtest should not be trusted to be the final form, and is a weak indicator of whether the result will really be compatible.

Still compatible, however, it's likely that when the 2024 version comes out, my groups and I will update to the 2024 versions, recreating subclasses if needed. Having said that, we use DnDbeyond, and if they don't have a way to override the spellschool restrictions for certain classes, I might skip getting the books for DnDbeyond.
