Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

Critical Role’s publishing arm, Darrington Press, has released a ‘State of the Press’ video announcing two new tabletop RPGs.

Two new RPG systems we’ll be releasing: Illuminated Worlds, optimized for short story arcs and adaptable to myriad settings, and Daggerheart, a fresh take on fantasy RPGs with emphasis on longer campaigns and rich character options.

At Gen Con this year, you’ll be able to play AND purchase Queen by Midnight, and you’ll even be able to take our two upcoming RPGs for a spin. We hope to see you there!

It sounds like some of the designers have experience with Blades in the Dark. I would love to see this as the basis for one of these games. I think it would make for an excellent show. When I have played Blades (and Scum and Villainy) I've found the game flowed in a manner that would be much more interesting for a stream. Hopefully...

A change to a different system more built around the table’s strong points, with some faster conflict resolution, might actually get me back to watching their show. Can only spend so many years watching the crew spin their wheels planning before things get old, a mixup could be nice.

But it wasn't millions. It wasn't even hundreds of thousands.

It was a small number for D&D, but an immense number for anyone else. The only time Critical Role has popped something into the Top 5 is when they put out a D&D book.
Yeah, Critters instantly selling out the print run of Monsterhearts is great for Buried Without Ceremony, the publisher, but that was likely a few thousand copies at the absolute most.

Joke's on you: The RPG is built around shopping montages.

I’ll probably buy it also probably never play it.
Yeah I think that is pretty common. Just because a Kickstarter is successful doesn’t equal long term financial success. Myself and most the people I know bought into 7th Seas a couple years back and yet few of us played it or those who did played it and quickly lost interest. Cool books for sure but that was about it.
