WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

Wow, I would have thought that Pinkerton could afford "real" dummies, or at least have training sessions at a place like Sig Saur.

So...in your opinion WotC should have called the police on this guy? Because that seems like starting kind of heavy to me.

So is your hypothetical about stolen property or not? Because if it is stolen property, that's something for law enforcement to handle, not hired goons. If it's not stolen property, and you think law enforcement would be too heavy handed, why did you use that as your hypothetical?

edit- in case I wasn't clear, I don't think police would be appropriate here, I was talking about your hypothetical that you made in my prior comment. The hypothetical is not an appropriate comparison.

Honestly I just wanted to see if they clearly normally were armed, but there are so few pictures we can't really tell anything meaningful. Also we know they use subcontractors a fair bit, which muddies the waters. These guys could have been subcontractors for all we know.

As a total aside, do any gun people know what's up with the lower, horizontal piece of paper there? Or the upper one, actually, which seems slightly above "center of mass". Hmmm.

so you were looking for a picture so you could be "HA! I knew they were all armed"

I mean kinda? I was asked for sources on them being armed, so I went looking. Went I couldn't find any text (and the forums I discussed it on are gone like an awful lot of forums of that era, RIP), I looked for pictures. Is that wrong? I'd rather have sources than no sources.

The short answer is - of course they're not all armed.

Let's start with the absolute basic stuff. They are international. Not all countries have the insanely lax gun laws that the United States does. So if you're operating out of, say, the UK office, you're probably not going to be armed.

More importantly, a lot of their employees aren't dealing with front-line protection. They have a lot of people employed in risk analysis, document review, research, and in-house investigations. While there are certainly armed people working for them (think of the prototypical phalanx of armed private security around a VERY IMPORTANT PERSON, or, if you prefer, around a media organization reporting in an unstable area), it is not the case that they are all armed.

Although that would be funny! "I'll just shoot these shrinkage reports and get to the LP answer, before brandishing my gun at everyone at corporate HQ!"

Shooting at dummies makes it hard to cleanly distinguish hits and grouping sizes. Generally you'll shoot silhouettes/paper targets because it's much more legible that way. And if just hitting a torso sized target with speed is all you're trying to do you're more likely to shoot steel than dummies, they last longer.

Especially because the real question isn't whether they are armed at the company BBQ, but whether they are armed when out on duty in the field, about to knock on the door of someone with whom they may have a highly negative interaction.

I mean, folks, have you been following the news these days? People get shot pulling into the wrong driveway! We expect PIs to go to work unarmed?
