Cookin again

@Zardnaar
Jealous of all the yummy food you come across!

I live in a pretty small town that's expensive and lacks variety, so I don't go out to eat much. I guess I'm grateful in a way though, since that's what drove me to start cooking.

My city is only 130k, hometown 14k.

Two new Mexican places opened up (NZ Mexican not very good generally).

Nice! Around 30k here.

When it comes to Hispanic food, I am spoiled rotten; at least a dozen great restaurants to choose from. Food Truck burritos went from $6 to around $13 after COVID though, so don't get out as much as I used to. I'm guessing that's the case for most folks though.

Tuesday dine out. Went to one of our old burger joint. Manno burger fried chicken, brioche bun, so much sauce.

Winter is coming in the South.

We had a Domino’s pizza for dinner tonight- the first in a couple decades. Mom heard about their new Philly cheesesteak pizza and wanted to try it. I ordered ours large, hand-tossed (their thick crust) and without peppers (Mom doesn’t eat them).

Honestly, it wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t compare it favorably to the pies by my favorite places. The main sin was that the pizza was woefully undertopped: they ended about 1.5” from the edge. On a thin crust pizza, that wouldn’t be too bad, but with a thick crust, that’s a lot of just bread. Even that would have been OK if it had been a fancier crust- cheese stuffed, pretzel bread, glazed with garlic-butter, or some such. But it was just plain and relatively flavorless.

In comparison, the toppings on a hand tossed large from the (excellent) Indian-owned & operated takeout pizzeria around the corner from the house are no more than 0.5” from the edge, and sometimes escape its confines.

Dominoes here is doing Indian topping pizzas. Butter chicken pizza.

They end fairly close to the crust. American expat mate says Dominoes is better here vs USA but he misses USA pizza style over ours.

For basic flavors Piza Hut is better, Dominoes has the more interesting range.

Well Domino's is the fast-food joint for pizzas so one is generally prepared to be disappointed by them (my experience).
What I've done which helps is to order from them and then put on your own toppings (if possible) - avocado is a topping that works if you put it on afterwards.
You can always reheat in the oven if that is your preference., just take care that you do not dry it out too much.
It is also cheaper placing your own toppings than getting charged per topping by the pizzeria.

There's a restaurant near me that's Indian/Italian (for complicated plotty reasons) and the only fusion items they make are curry pizzas. Sometime when I'm not going to be sharing with my wife, I'll be curious and try the vindaloo pizza; I expect it to be either a trainwreck or a thing of beauty.
