Did those versions of Basic D&D (yes, I know what they are) actually change the rules? Was a fighter different in Holmes and Mentzer?
A quick google search tells us yes, a little to your 1st question. The second question must be answered with pronbably not, but the thief go nerfed hard.

They won’t need to be updated, though. 3 and 4 were different games. That isn’t the case, here.

As others have pointed out, it’s not accurate. They mean that no existing 5e book purchase will be obviated, because you can just play a 2024 rogue with a 2014 rogue subclass, and the other way around.
I asked why I should buy books that are already outdated... and you ignored that every class/subclass we have seen has been changed 'updated' so yeah, I think you can expect the ones that come out now will too

The Venn diagram overlap of those who have loudly proclaimed their exit from playing DnD and those insisting this is a new edition is petty close to a perfect circle.
I'm not sure that's true... I have been pretty clear I think it's a new edition and I have not proclaimed an exit at all

There are differences in classes between B/X and BECMI. Then again, the Expert book in the BECMI set has this disclaimer in the beginning of the book..

Can we start referring to BECMI as D&D 0.5 yet?
