is your point that we are all guessing based on limited info? is it that you have an issue with me responding to talk about IT by bringing up IT in a limited point?

nope infact I said "I don't know IT" so not what I am looking at.

I didn't say that.

yup... did someone claim they were the same?

You can but like computer programs board games are not TTRPGs so both you and the other person are just making an analogy.
I wonder if someone will now say I am forceing a board game analogy?
I am not the one who brought up IT in the first place, you are. All I was saying is that the Software model has nothing in common with tabletop games. Sure RPG's aren't exactly board games, but they are a lot closer to them than software is. Why even bring up IT in the first place if you don't know anything about it, and there is another model that is actually a lot accurate to use? A model being used successfully for decades, by the same company we are talking about.

WotC isn't basing their evergreen game on Windows 10, they are basing it on Hasbro's history of making evergreen games like Monopoly and Clue.

Yeah, that's one thing to consider.

Is mechanical "stagnation" the same as game "stagnation". For example, there are people who still play 2e, who have been playing 2e since longer than other editions of the DnD existed from start to finish. Is 2e mechanically stagnant? I can't imagine it isn't, considering it is a discontinued product that has no official company making rules for. But is 2e itself stagnant? I mean... not really, people still play new campaigns and have ongoing stories for it.

So, maybe 5e doesn't get the mechanical revolution I want (which would be upsetting) but they could revolutionize the STORIES and the Campaigns. That could be an interesting thing to see in the future.
Why should WotC care if people like you, consider the game "mechanically stagnant" if it still keeps selling incredibly well and people are still enjoying playing the game? Just because you consider being "mechanically stagnant" doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.

And this right here is the problem.

Or not. After the past year, maybe them abandoning the field of RPG development to just do cash-in franchising might be for the best.
Will you please stop with the belittling and insulting comments like this. Just because you don't like the direction of the game and their release schedule, it doesn't mean that they are "abandoning the the field of RPG development." It is incredibly condescending and insulting to the developers, and players like me that actually like the direction they are going.

I am not the one who brought up IT in the first place, you are.
no, I responded to someone talking about IT and said I don't know anything about IT and then continued to tell a joke a friend always tells.
YOU then went into bully mode to pretend that my response was creating something whole cloth out of nothing.
All I was saying is that the Software model has nothing in common with tabletop games.
okay, since I am not talking software so what?
Sure RPG's aren't exactly board games, but they are a lot closer to them than software is.
again I didn't bring up software I responded to people talking about IT and said I didn't know about it and you have now double or trippled down on the lie that I am the one bringing it up.
stop, please.

I responded to talk about IT, so again, please stop pretending I brought it up.

and I see nothing in common with either.

edit: here is the post if you want to talk IT and software. https://www.enworld.org/threads/jer...ew-editions-of-the-books”.697916/post-9035635

no, I responded to someone talking about IT

I responded to talk about IT, so again, please stop pretending I brought it up.

This reminds me of when I was younger going to bars. A group of guys and gals that were not always the nicest when we drank. But 1 guy was a foot shorter and 100lbs lighter than the average… 7 out of 10 times you know who people wanted to fight if they were mad at all of us?

I don’t know why this guy is singling you out as the weak one but I am sorry
