Lol.

This is not the case if you get an official rules upgrade. If you refuse to use the new rules it is on you, not the designers. They just don't tell you, that you have to switch.

Edited out an insulting statement.
I think Oberoni gets always thrown around when someone wants game designers to make decisions for them, that they should make themself.
I hope that is not insulting.

Edit:
From now on this shall be the Embarash fallacy:

Thinking you have to use the inferior variant of a rule if not explicitely ordered to use the better one just to reference Oberoni whenever someone suggests to use the better official variant.

Edit2:
Closely related to the fallacy to think, a game can be created that is perfectly usable for all (edge)cases and all preferences.

The fact of the matter is, if the old options are not deprecated then there will be much more severe class disparities, as 5e is not getting updated or corrected, and as such its unbalanced parts are not going to balance well against 1DND.
The choice whether to deprecate is yours, not WotC’s.

Each group decides for themselves whether they stay with 2014, move to 2024, or mix. Just like it was theirs to stay with 3e, move to 3.5, or mix. (Stay with 3e or move to 4e, etc.)

My real fear so far is that they are going to do what Next did in its waning months; cave to the loudest voices advocating for status quo. For example, this is the first time I really feel 2014 style wild shape will return in some type of "pick from these X options" rather than allowing PCs to decide if they are wolves or tigers or owlbears. That they will minimize or eliminate weapon mastery because people demanded it be 4e style ADEU powers for martials rather than riders to enhance fighter attacks. Its that kind of backtracking that took the best part of the Next Fighter (battle dice and maneuvers) and hid it in a single subclass. I guess we'll find in about a month.

Why would that surprise you in the slightest? That’s been the mantra of 5e all the way along.

In this report it is more popular than Pathfinder:
And that is neither new or isolated data: CoC sells very well on Amazon, and frequently charts for FLGS metrics. It is one of the only RPGs my FLGS even stocks.
That's most popular games on Roll20, which ignores in-person play or other VTTs like Foundry where PF is usually played.

wait if it's just like 3e/3.5 did you just say this is an edition change (at least a half edition?)?

I'm not sure what your point is since they have increased the pace they've released material at in 10 years.
From a seller's perspective, they released a little TOO much material (at least too close together) last year. I don't like how it's bunching up at the end this year (but that was not intended, and happened by printer delays). 5 products per year is a REALLY good pace for maxing out most people's ability to keep up (with only skipping whatever they're less interested in, rather than having to make sorrowful cuts).
