In this new Unearthed Arcana document for the 2024 Core Rulebooks, we explore material designed for the next version of the Player’s Handbook. This playtest document presents updated rules on seven classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. This document also presents multiple subclasses for each of those classes, new Spells, revisions to existing Spells and Spell Lists, and several revised Feats. You will also find an updated rules glossary that supercedes the glossary of any previous playtest document.

New rogue strikes are something. May not be worth the the trouble for all rogue players, but they open up a lot tactical options.

Weapon mastery did replace paladin and ranger cantrips!

Fine with this. If you want cantrips as a Paladin or Ranger, take the Fighting Style from Tasha's. Weapon Mastery makes doing that a lot less painful now.

Also, I just noticed that the Trident got a minor boost. It now does 1d8 damage and has the Versatile (d10) property. I would have appreciated the Reach property instead of Versatile, but (shrug) this is fine.

It's basically the 2014 one but a dice bigger.

I like that. It basically puts the decision as to whether to have Str or Dex as a secondary stat as a first level decision, where it belong.

It really is a change that feels like it could have been there the whole time (and was likely common in homebrews, for that matter).

Loving the adjustments to Short and Long Rests, especially the clarification about what does and does not interrupt them. (Rolling initiative is a big one for my group. We check for random encounters once per Short Rest and twice per Long Rest, so this is going to come up a lot.)

This is how martial abilities should work, though. A trade-off you make in the moment, rather than a resource that refreshes on a rest.

This UA rogue (my favorite class when I play instead of DM) looks really good. I need to find a group were I can play now!

Overall, this pack is probably the best one so far!

Far more of the new stuff looks exciting and interesting (rather than "What were they thinking?" that often came up in previous packets).

I'm a little saddened by some of the back-sliding, but it's probably right to keep things as backward-compatible as possible.
