If someone's going to invent a position for me to have, change around the words I post to suit their imagined version of my point, they don't need me involved in the conversation any longer. They can keep on without me.

reading some of the comments about upcoming movies made me think of this line from a song:
We're not critics, we just hate it all anyway

Use of obscure jargon that only the initiated understand is not, in fact, an attempt to bring "serious" criticism to the RPG space. It's an attempt to gatekeep anyone who doesn't want to read the same 3,000-word unedited blog posts you do.

You are, in fact, intentionally walling yourself off from the actual RPG community and the handful of people you are engage with are ultimately irrelevant unless one of you takes the heretical step of dropping the jargon and self-congratulatory tone and actually engages with the wider RPG community.

Me: "I think I want to house rule this one thing..."
Intellectual #1: "Oh, so you ascribe to the "squickey" style of play. Good luck with that... "
Me: "What?"
Intellectual #1: "Haven't you read Charles Someone's 1986 blog, 72 Styles of DMing for 16 Styles of Playing"?
Me: "No..."
Intellectual #2: "Wait, I've read that blog, and clearly he's "trirectaganalizing""!
Intellectual #1: "Hmmmm, you might have a point... OP, which "Point" of the "9-Sided Star of Campaign Success" did you begin on?"
Me: "...?"
Intellectual #2: "He hasn't read that either! Well, it's no wonder why he's resorting to cheating..."

Exaggerated example, but how it feels sometimes!

If you'd read it the first time and understood it, I would have recommended seeking medical attention...

(I have no idea what you're talking about, but whenever anything on this board starts to make sense to me, I get worried...)

There is no way I’m guilty of all of this. I take a small bit of comfort in that.
