The Robotech death toll is...high. And they are not shy about it. From like the first episode with civilian deaths, right up to the near total genocide of Earth. The death of Roy Fokker, Ben Dixion and countless others and civilians, seared itself into my childhood brain.
Optimus Prime? What about Ultra Magnus? Goes out like a punk after failing his Activate Matrix roll, just because he’s not voiced by Judd Nelson. I felt so sorry for him.The Robotech death toll is...high. And they are not shy about it. From like the first episode with civilian deaths, right up to the near total genocide of Earth.
And, of course, the Ultimate Death: Optimus Prime.

Heavy stuff for ostensibly a kids' show. The Robotech death toll is...high. And they are not shy about it. From like the first episode with civilian deaths, right up to the near total genocide of Earth.

That was the boardroom decision to add new transformers to the toy line.Heavy stuff for ostensibly a kids' show.
Optimus Prime's death, along with a bunch of other Transformers (including Brawn, the first Transformers toy I ever had), was a heck of a tone switch from the cartoon, that's for sure.
Windcharger was mine.....bought a Woolworths for $1.99 with some change. But I could not read his stats, as the mini bots did not come with decoder viewers....until I found one on the floor of the toy aisle at K-Mart.Heavy stuff for ostensibly a kids' show.

One of the many lessons on why executives should've make creative decisions. That was the boardroom decision to add new transformers to the toy line.![]()
That's a great story! Those mini-vehicles were great - they presented a cheap on-ramp when most of the full-size toys retailed for $10-25.Windcharger was mine.....bought a Woolworths for $1.99 with some change. Even some of the things that I watched on the CBC, as a teen, would make US censors apoplectic. One thing that you really notice when traveling around Europe is how much more chill they are about nudity and sexual content, and strict about violent content - I particularly noticed that in Scandinavian countries. Seems healthier than here in North America, where depictions of gruesome violence are barely noted, but a bare bum excites outrage.
