There are too many roleplaying games made by too many companies.

Because RPGs have turned into a cottage industry and everyone fancies themselves a designer we end up with hundreds of individual systrms which never reach critical mass to be noticed, supported and most importantly find players.

If everything was concentrated on 10-15 discreet and concrete roleplaying games then D&D wouldn’t dominate the way it does currently.

[NB] I’m not saying that I want everything concentrated on 5e. In fact the opposite!]

Unless you're eating the worst stuff constantly, which some people certainly do, it's not worse for you than, say, alcohol, which we'd never make legal if we were starting human civilization from scratch today.

Here's another unpopular opinion: We'd never make driving (as in CARS) legal if we took into account how ridiculously dangerous they are.

And to think, people are generally more afraid of Flying, Sharks, and Thunderstorms.

"Turned into"? Where have you been? They've been that outside a couple companies since the 1970's. The only difference is the low end does purely PDFs now instead of really low budget paper products.

The barriers to entry are really low now, even for professional looking print products.

I disagree that there are too many new systems today. I feel like if a new non 5E or non OSR game comes out, there's an 80% chance that it is PbtA.
