• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

Wait what? Quests can time out? That ratchets up my anxiety.

Like the Druids are ready to flee at any moment! But I have to wait a couple levels to deal with the Goblins..... and Im looking for Karlach...
i don't think the main quest can time out but some of the character ones can but there are trigger points, I suspect. That is, either the timer kicks off when the quest is received, or you when you reach some milestone.

Yeah, I lost out on Wyll because I missed him and went right to the next main plot point, came back and he was gone. Was pretty sure I missed out on Gale too, but I restarted with a new character to be sure I got all of my companions I wanted.

Things tend to time out when you first encounter their hook, and then if they seem time sensitive, it'll probably evolve if you take a long rest. But it's usually things that are quite explicit about their urgency, like somebody who is in a life threatening situation or a burning building (or both).

I believe there is a spoiler free reddit thread about all the time sensitive quests in act 1 and 2.

Gale is a pretty major character.
Is he, though, if you never recruit him, because who needs another male wizard that thinks awfully highly of themselves. At level 1.

How far along are you?
Not that far, been busy and kept restarting, trying to make half-orc or halfling work (appearance-wise)... couldn't. But I'm happy with my dwarf girl, even if they dont' really get racial traits.

And have you managed to get him and Karlach in camp together?
Yes, because you know, happens automatically with Karlach. But I find him like this wet bag of nothing in the middle of what should be interesting...

He just reaches some critical mass of meh for me with the eye (not even full white, but bland gray), same with the scars (blend into his skin), his voice isn't exciting or deep, his whole shtick is sold to the player unclearly... I think it's because nothing about his personal design or voice lines is a strong hook.
Even him getting horny doesn't really have an impact, because you've just spent an hour surrounded by tieflings, so what's one more? it's not distinctive in that moment. the only interesting thing about him is the patron lady, I wish she just possessed him and handled all the talking - seeing her behind him in the poster art is the only reason I gave him a chance

I'm not that familiar with 5E, but I have a cleric/wizard who is level 2 and 1. I cannot cast level 2 cleric spells, but I can cast level 2 wizard spells. Shouldn't I be able to cast level 2 cleric spells as well? Or must I somehow choose which class to get my level 2 spell slot in?

Spell slots unlock at different rates for different classes. And each has there own slots you cant mix and match.

Basically, spell slots are meant to be shared. It's like lv2 caster + lv1 caster = lv3 caster slots. But you only have access to spells of the levels your individual class could cast (so lv1 spells for both of yours).

However, Wizard multiclass is broken, because even just Wizard1 can learn all spells for any level they have slots for. So a Wizard1/Cleric11 is just as much of a wizard as WIzard12, they just have access to Cleric spells too.

Is that a bug they will fix or something that is just the way it is. I also noticed that I can cast levelled bonus spells and regular spells in the same round.

Huh. Now debating MCing Gale.

No, it's a Larian Homebrew to ignore that restriction. They upped the cost of Quicken to 3 Sorcery points to compensate ... but I've still managed to cast three Fireballs in a round (previous round drank a potion of speed, so I've 2 actions and a bonus action).
