I'm waiting for the really Final Fantasy before I start playing. Otherwise, it just feels like false advertising.
They just want WotC to make the core books and an infinite string of adventure paths. Anything else is one of those horrible "setting books", that draw designer attention away from the adventure paths they should be making.I'm not sure what you mean by "you're still getting it." WoTC hasn't written a decent setting in all of 5e. The few that are good were written by other people. So no, we haven't "gotten it" at all.
Correct. Eberron is a setting book. Wildemount (not written by WotC) is a setting book. VRGtR, as much as I hate it, is a setting book. Nothing else WotC has written for 5e qualifies. In comparison to Eberron?
Its an Adventure. - Book 1.
Its a Monster Book. - Book 2.
Its an absolutely tiny slice of setting basics, player options, and some ships. - Book 3.
Again, compare it to the only real setting book of the edition. Its not comparable. Its like saying SCAG is a setting book for the Forgotten Realms.
Now, again, I found Eberron overwhelming, far too much, but when someone says 'Setting Book', they mean that. They dont mean SCAG, and they dont mean Spelljammer, which many many (not me) people found inadequate as a setting set of books.
You'll have to wait awhile - they haven't even got to the playoffs yet.I'm waiting for the really Final Fantasy before I start playing. Otherwise, it just feels like false advertising.
Heh, that would work rather well. That U1 map is actually a pretty decent lair map. Linear, but, with just a little bit of mystery.I once used the cave map from U1 Secret of Saltmarsh as a beholders' lair.
Considering you have repeatedly stated that you don't actually play D&D, I think we're doing fine. That is so far from what I want out of D&D I struggle to understand how we in any way play the same game.
Pretty much... yeah. Toss in the odd mechanics book like Xanathar's from time to time, and I'm absolutely content. They just want WotC to make the core books and an infinite string of adventure paths. Anything else is one of those horrible "setting books", that draw designer attention away from the adventure paths they should be making.
This is why I believe that Batman is stuck in "arrested development" as a petulant manchild in the minds of many people. Batman is constantly rebooted before Batman gets his sidekick Robin. Robin (and the subsequent "Bat Family") is essential for Bruce Wayne's character development. Batman needs Robin. Batman is a better person and character with Robin. But because some people view Robin or sidekicks as "silly," Batman can't progress beyond being a brooding manchild in a cowl. They should keep making Batman movies but stop making sequels. That is, ever new Batman movie should be a different take on the character with a different cast by a different director. Give me a bronze age Denny O'Neil Batman movie, then a dark 80s take, then a Morrison Batgod film.
