Unpopular Opinion:
Most of the energy behind narrative games (PBTA, FATE, etc.) is PTSD from bad GMs*
The corollary is that these games are great sources advice on how to GM, but the game play is really restrictive for more experienced GMs.**
*This isn't meant to insult people who like narrative games or minimize actual PTSD. I am using the term to get the idea across most easily.
**I understand that there is an entirely different game play loop that many people enjoy, I am not saying that these people are wrong for enjoying their gameplay.
***I probably come at this from a different perspective. I was briefly introduced to RPGs via a D&D one shot, not being impressed I found various forums online and read up on many different games before deciding on FATE and started GMing for the first time using that system. We did several campaigns with that and I even tried to introduce my group to Dungeon World but they bounced off that one pretty hard. Then I moved on to WHFRP 2e, M&M, FFG Star Wars, etc., now my new favorite is the Year Zero engine.
