Lyrics are often secondary to a lot of people. There are so many songs regularly played at weddings, for example, that probably wouldn't be if people bothered to pay attention to the lyrics.
Just read a great article about this...

For instance, back in about 2008 I worked at a place that did post production for TV ads. We did an ad for a luxury car that used (a slowed down cover of) Melt With You, a song about love in a nuclear apocalypse from 1978. I guess the ad execs thought "it's been 30 years our worried teens are now 40 somethings with disposable income."
Back in 2005, the General Electric put out an ad for the coal industry featuring male and female models working in some sort of coal plant while listening to "Sixteen Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford. "Sixteen Tons" was a damnation of the coal industry with their company stores, brutal working conditions, and debt peonage. The first time I saw that ad I turned to my wife and asked, "What the $%#% were they thinking when the chose this song? They know what it's about, right?"

But a lot of people really don't pay attention to the lyrics. I remember my then 4 year old niece dancing through the house singing "Not That Innocent" by Britney Spears. Her father wasn't particularly happy about that.

Those, and so, so many more!
One I have enjoyed explaining to German speakers, since it's also a common mistake in parts of the United States, is that "Losing My Religion" is not a song about religion or becoming atheist or anything like that. "Losing my religion" is just an idiomatic expression in the Southern US for getting so angry that you want to curse or act in way unbecoming of a Christian. R.E.M. being a band from Georgia would know this.

It’s mostly east of the Mississippi, too, so I was unfamiliar with it at first. When it was explained to me, though, I was like “AHA!”*

Throwing a hand grenade thread into the forum isnt actually worth anything if all you are doing is kicking up dust to vent your grievances. It may feel good, and be entertaining, but its impact is negligible at best and counter productive at worst.

If one perceives there to be a problem, actually outline it, and solve for it, because yeah it is all just math, except for well you know, player variances, player goals, DM styles, and honest differences of opinion.
  1. Describe the problem.
  2. Describe your goal.
  3. State your assumptions.
  4. Outline the math that informs those assumptions.
  5. Solve for the math, to achieve your goal.

D&D isn't math! It's an exercise in collaborative fictional positioning!
