Planescape is Jeremy Crawford's favourite D&D setting. "It is D&D", he says, as he talks about how in the 2024 core rulebook updates Planescape will be more up front and center as "the setting of settings".
I disagree. The DMG and the Manual of the Planes serve two very different purposes. Maybe a little bit of overlap, but in trying to guide someone in learning how to be a Dungeon Master and improve their Dungeon Mastering skills, getting into different cosmologies, planar settings, etc. is very low on the list of what would do that. Encounter building. Adventure pacing. Different playstyles. etc. etc. are the sorts of things most important in the DMG. How to create a cosmology is on the list, but very, very low in priority and certainly not the entire focus of how to be a better DM.I wouldn’t be surprised if the DMG turns out to be a Manual of the Planes. Another reason their cartographers have been suspiciously very busy.
Pedanticism sucks. Of course it is....the implied setting is the default setting. An "implied setting" is not a default setting.
Having a baseline. If you want there to be no default, then any lore is pointless. The Monster book would just be statblocks with no writing about the monsters.No. No it doesn't. The vast majority of players home brew. What is the point of a default setting?
Not hard line at all.How hardliner is he being here? I can't watch the video.
It is not the implication; not even remotely. It is just somebody’s inference. Which is something completely different. Let’s not just make stuff up to be upset about, eh?Perhaps not, but if that's the implication it would definitely represent a shift in emphasis. Like I said, haven't seen the video.
Good point. But I do suspect we’re getting a lot of maps.I disagree. The DMG and the Manual of the Planes serve two very different purposes. The post I was responding to was asking for an actual default setting.Pedanticism sucks. Of course it is....the implied setting is the default setting.
I really don't get why the same people come into every thread with the same arugments....WotC is not now, nor have they ever, told you how to play, how not to play, or anything.....they literally encourage homebrewing over and over in the books.....
Implied is Default. I have the exact same opinion as Zaukrie. The post I was responding to was asking for an actual default setting.
Why is everything an argument around here lately?
That is not the meaning in the post I was responding to. Why are you trying to redefine terms?Implied is Default. I have the exact same opinion as Zaukrie.
