Oh, 100%. I regret not playing more D&D in college, when my social circle was 99% philosophy and theology students. Would have been wild.

That's Catholic school for you, though. They held on to the whole 'satanic panic' business way longer than the consensus did.
By 2010, that was a very different scene, and can confirm it was wild.

Yeah, an artifact of when I attended - I used to get serious side-eye for occasionally reading X-Men comics. The D&D books very much stayed at home.

That being said, it is very much surreal to see those same people wrap loquacious on how they yearn for 'The Imperium of Man' on FaceBook these days.

Who knows what will be determined to be harmful to others (and therefore verboten) tomorrow? The number keeps getting bigger.
Possibly. If I had to guess, we are just more aware what is harmful. Sexism, Classism, Racism, and Religious persecution have always been harmful, we just have not always been aware of them (in on degree or another).

To be clear, I am fine with all of those being in a game, I just don't think it is a good idea for a company (particularly one in WotC/D&D's position) to sell products that are insensitive to those issues.

Yeah, I have no personal ibjection if my God or anyone else is in the game: but I know putting my God in the game would cause major corporate business problems, so best to avoid that. Less of a problem with Zeus or Thoth, but with this sort of thing the size of the problem isn't the issue, a corporation doesn't need any of that noise.

Ah, I don't really care about business. I care about what's available and what isn't.
