D&D General Requesting permission to have something cool

The local village priest isn't trained in armor and mace, is granted divine magic or the ability to hold back the dread.
In my view, the ability to cast divine magic (even just a little) is part of what defines a priest as a priest (in contrast with an enthusiastic layperson); and there's no reason why said local village priest can't cast a cure now and then or try to turn away a skeleton should one arise in his temple's attached graveyard.
The highwayman can't move triple his speed, dodge fireballs and disappear with ease. The scribe doesn't throw fire and lightning from his fingers and the town guard can't recover stamina and complete two actions in the time most take for one.
Nor should low-level player-characters be able to do any of this, which is my point.
They ARE superheroes; starting out as a Young Avenger/Teen Titan before moving up to the Avengers/JLA is part of the leveling process. The idea that D&D characters are at all mundane people hasn't been part of the design theory since the mid 90s.
The bolded is an unrecoverable system bug rather than in any way a feature, and goes a long way toward explaining my general dislike of WotC-era design.

I would say there is a 0% chance this could not be done, and done well, if someone actually cared to apply themselves to do it.

And yet.
I agree, it could be done, but just posting a complaint every now and then is easier.

If you want them to stop, maybe you should work on that class ;)

Me, I am slowly going about what I want, and it is nerfed casters and buffed martials, but that is on and off, not a dedicated task

Ah, but you see, anyone with the complaint has already rejected all the solutions that have been published, so creating a new solution will not solve the problem, only increase the complaint. The only possible solution is for WotC to do it and even if they do, the idea of the disparity is so embedded that most of them will not even accept a WotC solution.

In other words, they'll never be satisfied with what they got. Even when it might be the best and well-liked version of a class to come around. ;)

Not to mention that much like other classes cough**psion**cough the odds of the people who post about this agreeing on any solution is between Slim and None. I think I heard that Slim just left town.

No. They are not difficult to play. They are annoying to play. There is a very big gap between the two. Tedium is not difficulty. There's very little that is difficult about the Wizard.
OK, now this I don't get.

One of the main complaints (by other people!) about Fighters in all editions has been that they're tedious to play. All you can do is swing your weapon over and over, and that's boring.

But here you're saying Wizards - generally seen as the opposite of Fighters - are also tedious to play.

If that's the case then I think the designers are well and truly into can't-win territory.

Nah, I enjoy talking about it. I pretty much have what I want already.

This is why public playtesting is a bad idea. Do your due diligence in design and in-house playtesting, and then put the thing in the book. The same people that are going to complain in the playtest are still going to, but everyone else actually gets their psion or warlord or whatever.

Haven't you heard? Everybody hates the fighter class! The fact that people play fighters more often than other classes is no indication whatsoever that when given options people choose to play a class they like. Any day now, people are going to realize they really don't like the class and stop playing fighters.
