Employee at theater posted Narvels was having a 77% fall off week two. Decided to wait on mor info.
78-80% fall off.

I thought it would do Black Adam numbers around 400 million World Wide. Then struggle to 300.

Looks like might not do 200 and make Flash look good.

The amount of publicity gotten by having the actors out in the field doing interview shows, etc is enormous.
That missing because of the strike surely had an impact on recent releases.

Yes i think Barbie was launched during the strikes though so it's not that big of an effect imho.

Thor Love and Thunder annoyed people. Quantumania didn't get much comparatively. Then She Hulk. Ms Marvel and Secret Invasion rated low and crapped the bed with Secret Invasion.

Think Secret Invasion is the second lowest rated MCU show ever Ms Marvel the lowest one iirc (may be other way around).

So overall downward trend with characters no one really knew or cared about in a team up movie they couldn't promote after a stinker of a TV show tgat helped if you watched 3 other shows. And almost every super hero movie in general also has bombed this year with 2 exceptions iirc.

Throw in Eternals and TLM barely breaking even give or take and Disney's had a terrible year.

Barbie w/ Oppenheimer had a weird synergistic viral thing going on.
I am not certain it is possible to fairly compare anything else's short falls or success with those 2 movies.

*edited to add the word "fairly"

More to the point other movies made money without cast promoting them.

It's a factor but as I pointed out there's Been a very big downward trend last year or so maybe longer.

Absolutely.
I personally don't see any reason to go to the cinema and haven't in years.
Covid got even more people to watch stuff from home and many of them decided they like it better.
My opinion is that studios just aren't going to get parts of the public back like they used to and will need to adapt.

The Marvels is the culmination of many things. Even if we ignore the things that affect everything (Covid got many people to upgrade their home theaters, theaters are going out of their way to raise their prices, inflation forces people to consider their spending more), you still have plenty of Marvel's own choices working against it: Phase 4 has been mostly trash, especially the Disney+ shows, Marvel movies will come to Disney+ in short order, the self-stated launch of Phase 5 was Quantumania and it was even worse...

They reached a critical mass of suck, ignored their one chance at pretending phase 4 was just an aimless fluke and we've reset the quality pipeline here look at this new phase... and The Marvels is just stuck paying for a lot of other people's sins. It's may not be a great movie, but previously people gave mediocre MCU movies a pass, until now they don't.
