D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

Trying to get back into the game after having left off playing it for a few weeks, and I'm finding Act 3 highly frustrating. I follow some clues to a shortcut into a place that could get me ahead of one of the Big Bads, and he's got it rigged to explode and me on Candid Camera.
Did you try calling his bluff? The explosion doesn't destroy it instantly, if you are quick you can still rescue everyone.

NB, I can think of at least five different ways to tackle Gortash and his steal watch.
Then I track down Minsc, make sure I'm in non-lethal mode when I take him down, and he dies anyway and Jaheira storms off. This is not the super-flexible gameplay and plotting I remember from the first two acts. :(
Non-lethal combat is very difficult, since it only applies to melee weapon attacks. He probably stepped in an acid puddle.

Seemed pretty instant to me, cutscene of explosives and then back to the dock. Never even set foot inside.

No doubt, this was just a bit frustrating.

Oof, that's where me being rusty after having been away from the game caught me out - I finished him with a ranged attack. Time to reload and try again.

How does the game campaign story play out when four players fill out a campaign and not take any origin character? No Shadowheart around for Nightsong thread, no Laezel for kithrak Voss stuff… etc.? Does it still hold up or is it more of a mess?

It's more of a mess, but it depends on how much you care about the stories of the origin characters.

3 Players + 1 NPC works fine because you can swap in whatever NPC has a quest for a local area. But 4 Players means several NPCs will get pissed about missing their quests and can outright leave.

That said, there is still lots of fun content even without a single NPC in the party. So the game is very playable, and there will still be some fun camp events.

I haven't been following this thread because i hadn't yet beaten the game and didn't want spoilers. But now that I've beaten it and want to start a new campaign, I see this post and am curious how to go about creating a party of only PCs. Is there some mod that allows it for single player, or is it only possible if you join up with other people online?

You don't need a mod to create party of only PCs.

1. Go offline in Steam and then shut Steam down entirely (playing within Steam stops opening multiple instances).
2. Find the game .exe file and run the game from there.
3. Start up a multiplayer game and create character #1
4. Start up a new instance of the game by running directly from the .exe file without closing the first.
5. Join the multiplayer game set up in step #3 (there will be a code you can cut and paste from the first game) and create character #2
6. Repeat steps 4 - 5 to create characters #3 and #4.
7. Check to see if you have all four characters visible in the first game, and save the game.
8. Close down all instances of the game, and then load the save. All four characters will be there and be under your direct control. You'll even be able to run the game from Steam again.

The only problem is that running multiple instances at the same time can cause less powerful machines to have issues and even crash. I think you can do this by just running 2 instances (create character #2, save, close that instance, re-open instance, create character #3, etc.), but I'm not sure.

If you don't want to use any of the Origin characters, just play through until you acquire Withers, then pay him to recruit some NPCs to fill out your party. You'll still have at least one or two Origin characters in your camp, but you can just ignore them or persuade them to leave.

YES! This worked perfectly*. Now I can enjoy the wonderful story-line of BG3, with all the customization of Solasta. Maybe, for Larian's next endeavor, they can make Icewind Dale 3 and we'll be able to create our entire parties without all these backdoor shenanigans.

*I did have to hunt around a bit to locate the executable file and the 4th instance of the game gave me major lag. But I endured and came through much stronger in the end.

Heh, I got the mod that removes the limit for the number of characters and somehow managed to get to six instances running at the same time before my gaming laptop cried our for mercy. And doing it so many times is how I was able to give the directions from memory alone lol...
