Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

I agree, but mostly to strike Goodfellas from the record. Scorcese is vastly overrated since we are sharing unpopular geek media opinions.
overrated feels very inaccurate to me. He has such an impact on cinema though. This to me sounds like when that guy tried to argue Beethoven was overrated. It just doesn’t feel like a substantive critique of the artist in question

That said, it is totally fair not to like a given artist or director

I don’t think his movies are all the same, but I can see how one might feel that way (I feel that way about Woody Allen and they both arguably overdo Nee York. I love Scorsese but even the departed which was supposed to be super Boston, felt like Boston through a New Yorkers eyes to me

I feel like the wow like was made just for this post.
"Home Alone"occurs at Christmas and includes the trappings of that season, but the season isn't central to the plot. It could have taken place during school summer vacation, with minimal rewrites.

"Die Hard"occurs at Christmas and includes the trappings of that season, but the season isn't central to the plot. It could have taken place at any other time, when McClain went to visit his (ex)wife at work, with minimal rewrites.

If one is out, so is the other.

"...rated or valued too highly." Yes, I do think he has done some great work and left a mark on cinema history. Though, I think that was some time ago and gets legacy credit for the garbage he puts out now.

Again, define "overrated." How is Citizen Kane overrated because most people who know anything about movies rate it in the top 10?

And what does "legacy credit" even mean? Is Bob Dylan "overrated" because he had the temerity to keep living and making music?

Scorsese is one of a very tiny number of directors that has had a true impact on all movie-making, and even though his later movies aren't all great, he has had a number of amazing movies in there.

Oh man, aside from Raging Bull do not do this!

Look, if you want to say that he just makes the "same" movie, then you can't look at this particular list and say that they are all the same. At all. He is constantly taking chances, which means that some pay off and some don't.

Saying that, inter alia, The Last Temptation is the same as The Departed, or that After Hours is the same as Gangs of New York seems like a truly bizarre statement ... to me at least.

Oh I wasn't disagreeing, I was more shocked that Home Alone wouldn't be considered an x-mas movie. Also smiling about how the "wow" like looks like the McCaulkin shaving scene

Im talking generalities here. Wells didn't knock out Citizen Kane repeatedly either, though certainly lived off the legacy.

This is a good one because I am a Bob fan. Though many of his albums were stinkers that sold well because of his good stuff. Generalities again.

Im not disagreeing, but a number of his films are rated higher than they ought to be; in my unpopular opinion.

I wasnt commenting on the movies being the same, I was dreading having to sit through all that again. I dont think somebody of the opinion "movies seem all the same" is likely to enjoy it either.

Here's one.....

Arguing if something is a Christmas movie is pedantic and boring. It's basically a canon argument.

As long as there is a Christmas atmosphere in the background somewhere, it is a Christmas movie

It doesn't even need that. Any holiday movie is just a social construct. The only requirement is that people associate it with the holiday; it could literally be about anything.

Consider "Three Little Nuts for Cinderella", a classic German Christmas movie that has nothing to do with Christmas at all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tři_oříšky_pro_Popelku

Consider "Dinner for One", the most watched New Year's Eve movie in the world, that has nothing to do with New Years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One

Consider Taco's "Puttin' on the Ritz", which is in so many "Halloween music" compilations I can't even start to count them. It has nothing to do with Halloween. The only association is that the song was used in "Young Frankenstein". But Taco's version isn't in the movie. And the movie isn't about Halloween.

For years, "Lord of the Rings" was a Xmas movie(s) for my family, because we watched it at Xmas every year. Xmas doesn't even exist in Middle Earth.

There are no requirements. None.
