Disney's disastrous year

Man, I miss the days when you could just bash Disney for ruining Star Wars without worrying that you were inadvertently supporting someone's pro-incel, anti-diversity culture war agenda.

At one point not too many years ago researchers noted that over 60 percent actual traffic on Twitter , not bots, was from Politicians, News sites, and political entitites. I'll poke around and see if i can find that.
Huh. I would have thought celebrities would be a big chunk of that.

I feel your pain. I remember when I was disappointed in Star Trek: Discovery, went to go find people to commiserate with online, and immediately found myself in the company of racist misogynists. I just wanted more conference rooms!

I've found it harder to engage with geek media publicly in general lately, as the critical tribalism has moved from inconsequential to actively vile.

Disney+ has about 150 million subscribers at the moment. Losing 3 million of them would be a loss of 2%. Noticeable, but probably not a crisis. Losing them would probably be a win in the long term, as being beholden to a cult of personality for success is not a sustainable business position.

Given the account characteristics above, though, I don't think they saw losses that large from this issue.
And that is assuming, of course, that those 3 million intersect with Disney+. Odds are that many (most?) don't.

The default assumption, about anyone who criticized "Discovery", was that you were a misogynist/racist. Given the apparent demographics, it wasn't even a bad assumption.

Reminded me very much of how I used to complain that police were profiling motorcyclists by performing random "document checks" by pulling riders over, in my area. That is until I realized that every time I was pulled over with a group of riders, at least one of them was pretty much guaranteed to not have a valid license, tags, or insurance.

Love that show! I know that wasn’t the intention but he was brilliant in that role
If you weren't aware of it, Carroll O'Conner wrote lyrics to the closing song from the show. He sang it on "The Sonny and Cher Show", way back when.

I don't even REMEMBER who the bad guy was there. Some evil suit?

Okay, so, you not remembering that the bad guy was the guy who ran the Red Room - the program that created the Black Widows - is on you, not them. It was clearly presented, and that this was important to the main character was telegraphed all the way back to Age of Ultron.

Politicians are celebrities.
Yes, but I'm talking more about Kardashians(bleh) and other "influencers" who use Twitter. Those are non-political(mostly) celebrities and I was under the impression that there are a lot of those.
