D&D 5E Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

My point is that saying D&D 2024 when we’re talking about Hasbro’s new core books helps keep 5e tied to the wider hobby. Eventually I don’t think we need to talk about 2024 for anything other than the D&D core books. 5e is 5e with many publishers publishing all sorts of things for it.

I’m trying to say that we shouldn’t assume 5e == D&D or Hasbro published books. Instead, D&D is D&D and 5e is the superset.

I get what you’re saying but for the majority of players out there, 5e is DnD. The rest barely exist. At least that’s my experience. I’ve had exactly one player in ten years bring a 3rd party book to the table to use.

Wotc is bending over backwards to claim the 2024 revision is 5e compatible.
They are not calling it 6e.
Either 5.5e, 5e24, 5.24e or something of that vane will emerge.
There are millions of dollars riding on it starting with a 5.

The majority of people who consistency say 6e are haters and people who profit off bad news and clickbait.

My players bring 3pp to the table all the time, if they think I don't have what they want as a option. Turns out though that I almost always do, since my game is almost entirely 3pp anyway.

Doesn't make it right, and it's gotten worse as WotC 5e has become more popular. It's a serious, "Now all restaurants are Taco Bell" situation.
