So who do we think the Archmages will be?

Elminster and Mordeinkien are obvious, but what about Bigsby, Tasha, and Fizban? Szass Tam maybe? Nezram World Walker?

Are there any Archwizards from Ravenloft, Planescape, Spelljammer, and Eberron that would wish to fight Vecna?
Ravenloft is low on archmages, especially ones who are not domain lords. That said, there is Firan zal’honan, who seems to be working outside the role of his more famous alter-ego. He isn't exactly good, but he's not really all that evil anymore.

You don’t know anything about it yet, other than the fact that it involves 7 campaign settings and 3 archmages. So how are you in a position to criticise?

You’ve just been shown the full release schedule for 2024 and early 2025. It’s the start of February. That’s the plan. What more do you want from them? Pre approval before it goes to print? I’m not sure what standard of excellence WotC are supposed to be following that is somehow unsatisfactory for you.
Oh, I don't really care. I just think it's interesting to speculate on academically.

Obviously we don't have a lot of details yet, but what we do know very much points to this module as being the culmination of the first decade of 5E, adventure and setting wise. It's possible they just forgot to mention the Dale Lands, or Kara-Tur, or Dark Sun, or Mystara, but the list of settings we will be visiting IS the list of 5E settings.
My point. Not really "50 years of D&D" from initial appearances.

There’s a point where supporting earlier versions of something becomes a matter for the fans not the supplier. Same with cars, same with music, same with clothing etc etc.

You can’t expect official support for obsolete products for eternity. It’s just not reasonable
Lore-wise, we had official support (or at least not active opposition) until just a few years ago, crossing multiple editions (4e notwithstanding as usual). Supporting fans of previous editions, at least conceptually, was in-vogue for 5e upon release. I don't think being irritated that they changed their mind when their game became unreasonably popular is unwarranted.

So who do we think the Archmages will be?
My guess is that they'll mostly be Archmages that have already appeared in 5e. Mordenkainen was in Curse of Strahd and Descent into Avernus and Tasha was in the The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, so those are my guesses. I don't think Elminster has appeared in any 5e books yet, but he is big enough of a character that he'll probably be included.

My guess is Mordenkainen, Tasha, and Elminster.
