Storm King's Thunder come out about 6-7 months before Yawning Portal reprinted the G series, and Tomb of Annhilation riffed on Tomb of Horror only 5-6 .oaths after Yawning Portal. So I don't think that would disqualify Dwellers of the Forbidden City nearly 7 years later.

Plus, Dwellers of the Forbidden City was a tournament Module: it is possible that will be a theme in this book, woth the framework being a way to string together tournament style drlves.
Ooh. Maybe they'd include Vault of the Dracolich then - it's my personal favorite tournament adventure. From very early in the D&DNext playtest.

Sorry but you don't get to decide why people were pissed off.
There is ZERO evidence of nefarious intent behind the name One D&D. It was stated to be a placeholder name just like D&D Next before it.

If you have evidence of bad intent, let's hear it. If not, then please explain how you came to the conclusion that there was ill intent behind the name without knowledge of other things WOTC had done and an opinion that such other things were negative and applying that knowledge and prior opinion to assumptions about the name? Because, lacking evidence, it has to be assumptions about the intent of the name and those assumptions have to come from some prior opinions right?

Ph, hey, that looks like a great fit: Yawning Portal had Dead in Thay, after all. The 1E "Classics" are the go-to for speculation because they are well-known, but clearly WotC isn't bound by any particular rules on their choices.

Oh, agreed. I love picking up a physical book, and I use the monster books a lot just to look for a random one. But in play? It is almost all digital at this point. Why print out a statblock when I can just look it up? Rules? On line look up. the only physical books that I think make total sense for me at this point are setting books, because I don't use them in game/live....but we don't get those from WotC anymore. And I own so many already.....

It is partly coming down to cost, and the fact we might downsize again/move again. Like, I can't justify physical books at some point.

And, yes, the search and a few other things are NOT GREAT on dndbeyond, but it is still better than a book most of the time.
Yeah, this is something I'm coming to terms with that is rough. I love owning physical books, and I like sitting on the couch to read through them.. But for actual game use a PDF is just miles better. Sure you can put tags or bookmarks in your book but it's never as effective as the digital copy. I like to open multiple instances of my books as individual tabs that I can bounce between, each open to the pertinent section. Or cutting statblocks and pasting them together into a single page for table reference.

It's just hard to beat.
Should I take the release date of the DMG being right before my birthday as a sign?

If so, as a sign of what?
Same! It'll be coming out the week before my birthday.. I was really on the fence about buying any new WOTC product but I may make an exception here and buy it as a birthday gift to myself.

I wouldn't mind seeing Rahasia and/or the Desert of Desolation series... but I am doubtful that would make the cut given the fact that it was 3 modules.
Desert of Desolation would have been a great series to anchor another Ghosts of Saltmarsh-like product, padded out with more desert adventures from Dungeon magazine. I would love to know why WotC never did any more of those.

So... I've been running this campaign once a month for 2 hours a session with my high school buddies - we reconnected during the pandemic and the campaign still is going strong!

It started with the original Phandelver, but they didn't find the "big bad" of that adventure, who instead kidnapped an NPC. So I randomly decided to grab a 1e adventure off my shelf and make that the 7-9Level adventure - and yup you guessed it, it was Tsojcanth. I've read it through once, and it needs... work. Maybe not so much work; but I think I need to make a faction cheat sheet and a relationship map to really understand what's going on there. And then I'll have to tie this all into my ultimate big bad guy (gal?) Lolth...

Right now they are going through Tamoachan at the speed of roughly one room per session 😲 (one guy's getting a bit frustrated I think, he just marches into rooms and starts opening all the things - good thing he's got the most hit points!)

But that's ok. At this speed, Infinite Staircase's release in July will be just in time for when they get to Tsojcanth :ROFLMAO: So maybe I don't have to do this work after all!
