I look back fondly on the days when the phone was yellow and on the wall with a spin dial and a long spirally cord. They didn't cause these problems back then in the good old days!

I couldn't take it, and it's not even a thread I've been posting in, so I did. (I was hoping another thread would come up and draw them like a moth to flame - whether that means attraction or confusion is irrelevant, it didn't happen).

I give a pass to Merriam-Webster's Third New International Dictionary being the victim. (As would many Nero Wolfe fans, I imagine).

Well, "infer" and "imply" are not synonymous, but it was still a bit much even for Wolfe.

If the phone wasn't black with a fixed trumpet mouthpiece and exposed bell it wasn't the old days.

That. If you truly hate a book (and there are plenty of books deserving of hate) feel free to annotate the thing with your reasons why, then pass it along so the next reader can see them and judge for themselves. I had a particularly nasty required reading book in college that had at least three people's notes in it already and I added my share before turning it back in.
