Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

Basically Jedi masters visions lead them to murder Padawans. One of the masters was a Sith.
That's similar to my theory.

As infants, Mae and Osha are hidden from the jedi recruiters by their parents. Several years later the jedi have a vision of a force dyad of tremendous destructive power. Four knights are dispatched to take the children into protective custody (not to kill anyone) before they can harm anyone. The parents are not willing to let the jedi take the children, and a fight breaks out. This triggers the children to release their destructive power (Force fireball), and the parents (and others?) are killed. The jedi separate the twins to prevent it happening again, each being told the other was dead. Sol takes charge of one, Indara the other. Torbin attempts to deal with his guilt through meditation; Kelnacca goes into self-imposed exile (echoes of Yoda and Jolee Bindo here); Indara blames the jedi order, and sets out to destroy it (she is the "Kreia" character).

The sith give things a little nudge here and there, but they largely let the jedi destroy themselves.

That's always the funniest thing to me. The prequels were in part about criticising George Bush and later to some extent the War on Terror, Lucas literally said so and some of the dialogue in RotS was impossible read any other way at the time. You don't get much more "political".
You can go back even further than that. Ask a simple question - why is it "farmboy" Luke and Princess Leia and not the other way around? After all, it could easily have been Leia as the Jedi and Prince Luke in ANH.

But, let's be honest here, that was NEVER going to happen in an SF story written in the 70's. And it certainly would never be made into a movie at the time. Lucas can talk about how Leia is a hero and how new authors are "inserting" agenda into Star Wars, but, the agenda was always there. Never minding Leia as the Jedi, imagine trying to insert a POC into any of the three main characters. Not in a million years would that have happened. Good grief, it will be almost two decades before Star Trek, a progressive show if there ever was one, would get its first female captain.

This notion that in some golden period in the past it was all about "story telling" and now it's all about agenda is just so tiresome. And the worst part is, people actually buy into this.

/me steps off soapbox now.

thank you. I feel much better.

I watched the two episodes but honestly, I still don't have an answer to "why should I watch this?"

I mean, I liked the care they put into that town, but I don't know what to do with the focus on the "evil" twin.

Watching a show where the tension comes from "will the protagonist get away with yet another Jedi murder?" isn't exactly my kind of SW fun. Especially since she's so clearly outmatched and only succeeds because these Jedis are impractical dorks; the quality I least appreciate about Jedis.

Also they clearly have a redemption path in mind for the "evil" twin, so it feels like we already know how it's going to end.

As I said, the two episodes failed to provide me with an answer to the "why should I care about this show?" question.

I might give it another episode. Andor didn't become truly great until after all three of the initial batch of episodes, after all.

It's not Mae who is in need of redemption, it's the jedi. (note that if I'm right about Indara's death being faked, it's not clear that she has actually murdered anyone).
Sigh.

If the "revelation" is that the evil twin really isn't Evil, only misunderstood, please allow me to roll eyes. As if such a beautiful young female really couldn't be evil... (Cue the two sisters happily reunited going off to fight Mr. Proto-Sith)

In other words, not sure that's an improvement. In fact I truly hope (against better judgement) her sister truly is irredeemable, if only for there to be actual stakes. The good sister's story will otherwise just be a nothingburger.

Sure. Apart from one thing. He alibis Osha. Either he did tail her without being observed, or he is lying for some undisclosed purpose. Either way, it suggests he isn't as Jar Jar as he appears. The whole Darth Jar Jar thing is based on the idea that the stupidity is an act.

I don't mind stupid jedi as such but they're over doing it imho.

Sigh + rolleyes.

The story has nothing to do with beauty, or good and evil really. Organisations taking responsibility for mistakes rather than covering them up is what it's about. There is no "good" sister and "evil" sister, they are both victims.

Hopefully they don't redeem May. The twins twist dies let Osha be the protagonist.

I kinda liked it getting around having a dark side protagonist to cheer for.

So far it's fine but I kind of get where they're coming from.

I don't want a May redemption arc. Death or Sith. And I don't want a Jedi coven rehash. Osha darkside fall not so much either (temptation is fine)

Anything else see where it goes.

Said Jedi coven.
