They probably won't cover that in info about the 2024 players handbook"Later" isn't really being informed. When we get specifics like dates and which editions, that's when we'll be informed.
I will say that this is just the first week. We're definitely not gonna only talk about only three classes![]()
I think just species, backgrounds, and feats. So origins counts Species (and their lineages), Backgrounds, Skills, Tools, and Feats? (Because some species and background give access to these other things right?).
Ok, not quite a new subclasses for each.

2024 fighter still has action surge.Yeah I'm already seeing people say they believe it is intended that you can mix and match anything from 2014 and 2024. So a 2024 fighter could take 2014 action surge. Im hoping we get some guidance and that it will be clear in DDB
I agree. I think if something was nerfed in 2024 like action surge (assumed based on playtest) you are not intended to take the stronger thing from 2014 with all of the stronger things from 2024.2024 fighter still has action surge.
And I have played just fine with 2014 and playtest characters in the same game.
But I don't see the mixing 2014 and 2024 fighters without some homebrew.
Mixing and matching individual items within a class or subclass is pretty obviously going to throw things off. I imagine that you can mix and match entire classes and subclasses from 2014 and 2024 as a whole, but trying to mix and match parts thereof is almost certainly going to be a no-no.I agree. I think if something was nerfed in 2024 like action surge (assumed based on playtest) you are not intended to take the stronger thing from 2014 with all of the stronger things from 2024.
In several discord groups though people are saying that fully backwards compatible means that you should be able to take anything from 2014 and mix it with 2024 because it has not been stated otherwise.
In my mind taking a 2024 fighter with an older subclass not in the PHB(lets assume samurai) is fine. But taking one feature that has been directly updated like action surge is not. But again no clarification yet :/
Well, the first update limited to action surge to just a few combat actions. Which was unpopular.I agree. I think if something was nerfed in 2024 like action surge (assumed based on playtest) you are not intended to take the stronger thing from 2014 with all of the stronger things from 2024.
