D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Each day this week, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a new live-streamed preview video based on the upcoming Player's Handbook. The first is entitled Everything You Need To Know and you can watch it live below (or, if you missed it, you should be able to watch it from the start afterwards). The video focuses on weapon mastery and character origins.

There will be new videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, focusing on the Fighter, the Paladin, and the Barbarian, with (presumably) more in the coming weeks.

That is my objection with "inspiration" − it punishes players who prefer casters.

I wish 5e went with 4e rules where the "attacker always rolls" whether sword attack or spell attack.

Otherwise it is unfair for caster players.
one thing; Constitution saves

Unlike 2014, custom backgrounds, designed with the DM are in the DMG.
Huh. I dont think moving backgrounds to the Guide has anything to do with balance. Probably it is to reduce player-facing complexity at level 1?

Also, the backgrounds are very much the way to worldbuild the themes of a regional setting, for a specific community. They really are a DM tool. I hope the Guide encourages the DM to work with the ideas an interested player has in mind. The DM needs to make room in the setting for a novel background.

A DM who creates a new setting, does well to give the players a player-facing list of backgrounds to choose from, to give the player a sense of what is going on in this new world.

Does anyone know if the Warlock still gets 3 attacks per Attack action at 11th level with Thirsting Blade? This was a question my actual 5e DM had, whether that would fly in 5.5e, so if anyone's caught wind of it...

What did you think?

Good luck convincing the 5e community to embrace player-authored content. You'll have an easier time convincing lions to become vegetarian.

The player needs to fit within the defined setting. ;)
Good Lord, I didn't even get the chance to finish writing the post before the evidence presented itself!

Replaces normal 5E. LOOOOOLLLLL Who could have possibly seen that coming? Oh right, all of us who have been through this before.
replaces the 2014 PHB, and that was clear from the very start. You do not have an updated version of the same class and subclass and are not a replacement for the earlier version. It never was a PHB2, it always was a replacement for the 2014 PHB

5.5E or 6E call it whatever you want.
I stick with calling it 5e

Not to be a complete sad sack. Looks neat as 5E goes. Can't wait to get the core 3 special covers. Honestly, can't wait to take it for a spin but so far has solved no issues I have with 5E.
agreed, fresh coat of paint, no more

Heh, both are true. The DM needs to incorporate things the player finds fun. Conversely, the players need to respect how the "character" that the DM plays is the setting. The DM is responsible for the setting making sense, working well, ... and being fun for players.
