D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Each day this week, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a new live-streamed preview video based on the upcoming Player's Handbook. The first is entitled Everything You Need To Know and you can watch it live below (or, if you missed it, you should be able to watch it from the start afterwards). The video focuses on weapon mastery and character origins.

There will be new videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, focusing on the Fighter, the Paladin, and the Barbarian, with (presumably) more in the coming weeks.

Treantmonk Reaction: He has the complete PHB, and has had it for about a week. He makes some generalized comments about how it compares to the UA that I think people may want to see. For example, he says they have NOT revealed a "much bigger change to backgrounds" that has not been mentioned in any video yet.

if you do not want to deal with having a patron, do not pick a Warlock

Dealing with a patron usual consists of….i give you x you give me y in return and when the deal is not met…story ensues.

Casters get the world handed to them already. A failed save has much more impact than turning a miss into a hit. Casters can already use their inspiration on spell attacks.

Maybe even on Fireball damage rolls with the way the new Heroic Inspiration works? We still don't know if the roll is for one die, or one "roll" of dice.

The poster that you are replying to has stated that WotC kept their promise about compatibility. I'm not clear what you're arguing here.

and PHB 2024 weapon designs are not boring?

they are basic of the basic in art flavor on top of not being in proportion of what a weapon should look.

Weapons can stretch reality a little and still be cool designed.

I am sorry but I think they look fine.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say - you mean between 2e and 1e? The 5e Adventures are more compatible than that, AND still in print, unlike most 1e Adventures when 2e dropped.

2e was a reorganization with other rules from 1e moved to “optional rules”. This is more extensive than that.

I don't know whether to be sad or glad about the Swashbuckler rogue. I like having a swashbuckler, but I think it should either be part of a Fighter variant class or subclass of an entirely new class

Well, the Swashbuckler still exists as an option from previous sources. And some people will choose to implement the UA version (on paper character sheets, anyway).
