D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Each day this week, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a new live-streamed preview video based on the upcoming Player's Handbook. The first is entitled Everything You Need To Know and you can watch it live below (or, if you missed it, you should be able to watch it from the start afterwards). The video focuses on weapon mastery and character origins.

There will be new videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, focusing on the Fighter, the Paladin, and the Barbarian, with (presumably) more in the coming weeks.

So, back to thevideo, how many Settings did people see references to? I saw:

  • the Van Richten's Guide characters in some Dark Domain of Ravenloft or other
  • Mordenkainen, Bigby and Tasha doing something in Greyhawk, I suppose
  • Raitij and some other Heroes of the Lance (one preaumes) fighting a big old dragon

Anything else?

It looks like that last one is Raistlin, Caramon, and Kitiara as siblings fighting the dragon during their pre-Heroes (and pre-enemies) days. Granted, there would have been no dragons out and about at that point, so... I dunno. Rule of Cool I guess...

Interestingly enough, they actually name the D&D Cartoon characters in the caption of their illustration!

Yeah, and ask the start of the Classes chapter they feature and namedrio a bunch of the action figure characters: wonder if they are supposed to be in Mystara?

To swerve back on topic a bit, I am intrigued by what Perkins has cooking with the 5 sample Adventures, and the accompanying 15 Adventure maps. Wonder if this stuff is All New, something old being repurposed, or a bit of both?

He also emphasized that the presentation of Greyhawk is a "complete Setting" and went a bit into their reasoning on choosing Greyhawk.
I wonder if any of them will be the sample dungeons from either of the Basic. I'd love for the one from the 1983 basic set—so we can finally get justice for Aleena.

Did Bargle send you?

Kitiara never met the twins after Raistlin's Test, did she? Is there some prequel novel I'm forgetting?

Who knows? Very big open question in my mind. In one of the other threads about Greyhawk, I pointed out that the new Moke Schley map from the DMG has six named Dungeona, including Tsojcanth which is free on Beyond...so I do wonder if they might be utilizing those Dungeons as examples at the core of some Adventures:
