Greyhawk is the 'sample setting' provided in the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide, and it is illustrated with a massive hex map by the awesome Mike Schley.
I think the From the Ashes stuff tended to ignore the prior period of conflict with the Horned Society, that is discussed in the CoGH boxed set.The Greyhawk Wars saw the Shield Lands lose 100% to Iuz’s forces. The Iuz the Evil accessory had the Shield Lands as a province of Iuz’s empire.
It was rather like a whipsaw trying to explain the defeats to the Horned Society plus bandits, some never described total victory over the HS+bandits, then followed nearly immediately by total the defeated to Iuz.I think the From the Ashes stuff tended to ignore the prior period of conflict with the Horned Society, that is discussed in the CoGH boxed set.
It will probably be new, but calling back to earlier versions, like the Schley overworld map here (probably could say the same of the text). It will be interesting to see the isometric map of the City of Greyhawk on the other side - ie. will it be the same angle-of-view and treatment as the old boxed set isometric map?
Will it be the TSR City of Greyhawk map or the one from the Gord the Rogue novels? I always felt the map from the Gord the Rogue novels made a lot more sense - you can clearly see how the newer parts of the city grew organically from the Old City. Whereas the TSR version just slices up the city into 3 arbitrary sections.
I'm sure they'll stick to the TSR version, but with Vecna reseting the multiverse, it's a great time to change things up.
Greyhawk Wars … how many people actually know anything about them? …
Greyhawk Wars don’t make sense to many Greyhawk fans, including myself. So, stripping back a bunch of events that don't really make a whole lot of sense to someone who hasn't been there since the earliest days makes the setting much more accessible.
I mean, Iuz, being the evil demon-spawn he is, going wild and attacking all his neighbors does make sense.Greyhawk Wars don’t make sense to many Greyhawk fans, including myself.
Yep, I was playing a lot of D&D at that time, and I couldn't tell you what happened in Greyhawk Wars.Greyhawk Wars don’t make sense to many Greyhawk fans, including myself.
I actually bought the boxed set when it came out. Read it once and said "nope" and I've always ignored it afterwards.Yep, I was playing a lot of D&D at that time, and I couldn't tell you what happened in Greyhawk Wars.
